‘The Bear’ will reportedly end with upcoming Season 5

‘The Bear’ will reportedly end with upcoming Season 5

An Instagram post from series star Jamie Lee Curtis is giving fans reason to think the show may be winding down for good.

The Bear Season 5 could reportedly be the show's last.

Update: Deadline is reporting that sources have confirmed that “The Bear” will end following the fifth season, which is expected to air on Hulu this summer. The show’s star, Jeremy Allen White, has previously discussed the fact that “The Bear” creator Chris Storer had originally planned on the series having a four-season arc. However, given the success of the series, it was extended to a fifth and final season.

What’s cooking behind the scenes for Season 5 of “The Bear”? Fans of the FX on Hulu series are asking that question this week, after a social media post from key series cast member Jamie Lee Curtis. The post indicated that not only was the show nearing the end of production of its fifth season, but also that it may not be returning for a sixth.

Key Details:

  • Shutting it down?: An Instagram post from Jamie Lee Curtis has fans concerned that “The Bear” is ending.
  • Closing the book: Curtis wrote that she had done her part in “completing the story” of the Berzatoo family.
  • Critical acclaim: Curtis won an Emmy for her portrayal of Donna Berzatto in the series.

In an Instagram post featuring a photo of herself posing with Abby Elliot, who portrays her daughter Natalie “Sugar” Berzatto, Curtis indicated that she had wrapped her portion of the show’s fifth season. The use of one key phrase in the post, however, is what touched off speculation that Season 5 will be the end of the series.

“FINISHED STRONG!” Curtis wrote. ”Surrounded by an extraordinary crew and group of writers and producers and scene partners on the show that Chris Storer created, completing the story of this extraordinary family that we have all fallen in love with.”

The phrase “completing the story of this extraordinary family” could well indicate that Season 5 is intended to be the end of the story for the Berzatto family. There has been no public comment by FX on future plans for the series after Season 5, intensifying speculation even further.

“The Bear” follows Carmine “Carmy” Berzatto, a highly skilled chef driven to transform his family’s restaurant into Chicago’s premier fine dining destination. But at the conclusion of the show’s fourth season, Carmy opts to leave the restaurant to heal himself, putting it in the hands of fellow chef and partner Sydney and close friend and host Richie.

A wind-down of the series based on how its fourth season ended does make a certain amount of sense, and a show like “The Bear” could easily fall into the trap of watering down its story by trying to give fans too much. A release date for Season 5 of “The Bear” hasn’t been announced yet, but if it follows the pattern established by past seasons, it’s likely to arrive on Hulu in the last week of June.
