“The Boy and the Heron” Comes to Max in September

Hayao Miyazaki’s most recent “last” film “The Boy and the Heron” is taking flight.

The Oscar and Golden Globe-winning animated film from famed studio Studio Ghibli will make its United States streaming debut exclusively on Max on Friday, Sept. 6.

The hand-drawn original written and directed by Miyazaki was the famed filmmaker’s first feature film in 10 years. The story follows young Mahito Maki, who loses his mother in a hospital fire and a series of mysterious events leads him to a secluded and ancient tower, home to a mischievous gray heron.

When his new stepmother disappears, Mahito follows the gray heron on an epic journey into a fantastic world shared by the living and the dead, uncovering the secrets of the world and the truth about himself.

The voice cast for the English version is led by Luca Padovan with Robert Pattinson, Christian Bale, Dave Bautista, Gemma Chan, Willem Dafoe, Karen Fukuhara, Mark Hamill, and Florence Pugh.

With its September arrival, “The Boy and the Heron” will join the rest of the Studio Ghibli library on Max, as part of an extended exclusive multi-year deal announced earlier this year.

Netflix Released Teaser for “KAOS,” Starring Jeff Goldblum

KAOS” is preparing for its supreme reign. Netflix has released the first teaser for the upcoming dark comedy series, set to premiere next month on the streamer.

Created and written by Charlie Covell (“The End of the F***ing World”), “KAOS” is described as a “bold, darkly comic, contemporary take on Greek mythology… exploring love, power, and life in the underworld.”

King of chaos Jeff Goldblum is king of “KAOS,” leading the cast as Zeus, whose status of king of the gods has never been truly threatened— that is until he wakes up one more and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead, believing it to be the harbinger of an ancient prophecy which foretells his destruction. As doubt comes in and paranoia takes hold, the god begins to dangerously self-destruct.

But his fear isn’t entirely unfounded: Zeus’s once-friend and now-prisoner Prometheus is orchestrating a plan to bring him down.

Also starring are Janet McTeer as Hera, David Thewlis as Hades, Rakie Ayola as Persephone, Cliff Curtis as Poseidon, Stephen Dillane as Prometheus, Aurora Perrineau as Riddy, Nabhaan Rizwan as Dionysus, Killian Scott as Orpheus, Misia Butler as Caeneus, Stanley Townsend as Minos, and Leila Farzad as Ari.
