When will ‘The Roses’ bring the war to Hulu?
When will ‘The Roses’ bring the war to Hulu?
The film centers on a seemingly perfect couple whose marriage is tearing itself apart. When will it stream at home?
The war of the Roses is just heating up. The black comedy movie “The Roses,” based on the 1989 book of the same name by Warren Adler, is making its theatrical debut on Friday, Aug. 29. The film has all the trappings of a biting and hysterical black comedy, but when will you be able to stream it with your loved one in the comforts of home? We’ll give you our prediction.
Key Details:
- Conflicting reports: Reviews for “The Roses” are mixed to good.
- Home on Hulu: The film is being distributed by Searchlight, which means it’ll stream on Hulu.
- 100 days war?: A wait of around 75 to 90 days for the movie to stream seems likely.
“The Roses” follows the lives of married couple Theo and Ivy Rose, who seemingly have the kind of life everyone dreams about when they meet that special someone. But just under the veneer of their relationship lies a dark sea of resentment and competition, which only worsens over time. Soon, Theo and Ivy are locked in a death struggle of mutually assured destruction.
Response to “The Roses” by critics and preview audiences who have caught a screening thus far have been mixed, but more on the good side than the bad. It has a 63% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, and a 76% audience score. The movie stars Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch as Ivy and Theo Rose, and also features Andy Samberg, Kate McKinnon, and Allison Janney.

When will ‘The Roses’ stream on Hulu?
“The Roses” is being distributed by Searchlight Pictures, which is one of the many brands acquired by Disney when it purchased most of Fox’s entertainment assets in 2019. That being the case, we can say with certainty that “The Roses” will stream on Hulu when it’s ready to leave theaters, and no longer streams exclusively on digital rental/purchase services like Prime Video.
The recent history of Searchlight Pictures releases suggests a wait of 75 to 90 days or so is likely. The Oscar-bait film “A Complete Unknown” took 92 days to reach Hulu after entering theaters, whereas the Yorgos Lanthimos anthology film “Kinds of Kindness” was available in just 67 days. So, this prediction will require a little bit more prognostication than some others.
I think “The Roses” will stream on Hulu starting on Friday, Nov. 21, 84 days from its original release point. The film may not hit on that exact date, but late October or November 2025 seems about the perfect time frame to expect the movie to arrive on streaming.
