Full ‘Walking Dead’ universe to stream on AMC+ for the first time
For the first time, AMC+ will stream all seasons of ‘The Walking Dead’ just after New Years.
It may be hard to believe, but one of AMC’s most popular titles of all time has never streamed an episode on its in-house streaming service AMC+. “The Walking Dead” has always been exclusive to Netflix, thanks to a longstanding licensing deal between the world’s largest streamer and AMC that predates its own on-demand platform. But once the calendar turns to 2027, AMC+ will finally welcome the cornerstone of its tentpole franchise to the service, bringing every episode of every series in the extended Walking Dead Universe together.
Key Details:
- Long walk: For the first time, “The Walking Dead” will stream on AMC+ starting Jan. 7.
- Completists, rejoice: All seasons of the show will be available to binge on AMC+ as of that date.
- We’ll share: Netflix will continue to offer the series after Jan.7.
All 11 seasons and 177 episodes of “The Walking Dead” will begin streaming on AMC+ starting Jan. 7, allowing viewers to binge it to their hearts’ content alongside other titles in the vast Walking Dead Collection. As of January, the collection will all 371 episodes of the original series and its six spin-offs, as well as exclusive specials, bonus episodes, behind-the-scenes content, Comic-Con panels, and more.
The show becomes available on AMC+ for the first time as part of a new licensing deal with Netflix that was first announced over the summer. At the time, the date of “The Walking Dead’s” homecoming was not announced, but the network confirmed it as part of New York Comic-Con over the weekend. In addition to the original series streaming on AMC+, as part of the agreement, Netflix will begin streaming “Fear the Walking Dead” and other shows in the franchise globally starting next year.
“’The Walking Dead’ continues to be one of the most popular television franchises in the world, and we’re thrilled to add the groundbreaking, original series to our flagship streaming service,” AMC executive Courtney Thomasma said. “In the new year, both dedicated fans and new audiences will be able to immerse themselves in this cultural phenomenon from the very beginning and be the first to experience the new stories from the TWD Universe, including the upcoming final season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – exclusively streaming on AMC+.”
“The Walking Dead” was first licensed to Netflix in 2011, in what was a landmark deal for the streamer at the time. AMC Global Media didn’t launch its own streaming service until 2020, and the terms of its licensing agreements with Netflix did not allow “The Walking Dead” to stream anywhere else until now.
Viewers can sign up for AMC+ starting at $8 per month. Walking Dead fans will want to make sure their subscription is in good order for the upcoming final season of “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” but the streamer has a ton of other content to explore, including original series, new movies, horror content from Shudder, and more.
