When will you be able to watch ‘Thunderbolts*’ at home?
Critics are saying ‘Thunderbolts*’ is the best Marvel movie in years, but will that affect its streaming date?
The launch of a new Marvel movie used to signify that the summer movie season had officially begun. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has seen a bit of a downturn since those years, but that doesn’t mean that comic book movies are dead. The newest MCU movie “Thunderbolts*” is in theaters as of Friday, May 2, but when will you be able to stream it at home? We’ll give you our thoughts on that below!
Key Details:
- A roaring good time: Critics and preview audiences are loving “Thunderbolts*” so far.
- Definitely Disney+: Disney+ will get “Thunderbolts*” when it’s ready to stream, as with all other Marvel projects.
- Short trip?: History suggests the wait for “Thunderbolts*” to stream won’t be a short one.

“Thunderbolts*” follows a group of ragtag anti-heroes who aren’t exactly anyone’s ideal successors to The Avengers. Manipulated by CIA director Valentia Allegra de Fontaine, an assemblage of Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier), John Walker (U.S. Agent), Alexi Shostakov (Red Guardian), and Ava Starr (Ghost) decide to fight back against her schemes — but they’ll still have to save the world against a powerful and mysterious new threat.
Thus far, critics are hailing “Thunderbolts*” as one of the best Marvel movies in years. So far, the movie has an 88% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and 95% of audiences who have seen the movie via a preview screening also give it a thumbs-up so far.
When will ‘Thunderbolts*’ be available to stream?
Since “Thunderbolts*” is a Marvel movie, there’s no question about where it will be available to stream once its theatrical run ends. Disney+ will host the movie, as it does all other Marvel Studios films and TV shows. The real question is when that streaming premiere will take place.
Recent Marvel releases suggest that the wait could be an extended one. “The Marvels” took 90 days to reach Disney+ after its theatrical release, and Deadpool & Wolverine” spent even longer in theaters, taking 110 days to arrive on the streamer. “Captain America: Brave New World” came out in February, but still doesn’t have an official release date on Disney+ 77 days later.
With all that data in mind, I predict that “Thunderbolts*” will take 110 days to arrive on Disney+. If accurate, that means the movie will be ready to stream on Disney+ as of Wednesday, Aug. 20, though Disney may delay that date a couple of days so that it can make its streaming premiere on a Friday.
