“Hacks” Season 3 Premiere | Thursday, May 2–30
The show is back on the road for Deborah (Jean Smart) and Ava (Hannah Einbinder), but this time, the dysfunctional duo are going at it alone. The third season of the six-time Emmy Award-winning comedy series will premiere exclusively on Max on Thursday, May 2, with its first two episodes, followed by two new episodes each week through May 30. Paul W. Downs, Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Kaitlin Olson, Christopher McDonald, Mark Indelicato, Rose Abdoo, and Lorenza Izzo return for the third season, with new guest stars Helen Hunt, Christina Hendricks, Christopher Lloyd, George Wallace, Tony Goldwyn, and Dan Bucatinsky.

“Turtles All the Way Down” | Thursday, May 2
Another of John Green’s beloved novels gets a new page-to-screen adaptation after the success of 2014’s “The Fault in Our Stars,” 2015’s “Paper Towns,” and 2019’s “Let It Snow.” The story follows 17-year-old Aza Holmes (played by Isabela Merced), who is “trying to be a good daughter, a good friend, and a good student, all while navigating an endless barrage of invasive, obsessive thoughts that she cannot control.” When she reconnects with her childhood crush, Davis (Felix Mallard), she is confronted with fundamental questions about her potential for happiness, friendship, and love. The ensemble also includes Cree, Maliq Johnson, Poorna Jagannathan, Judy Reyes, and HBO/Max alum J. Smith-Cameron.

“Stop Making Sense” (A24 Re-Release) | Friday, May 3
The 1984 documentary celebrates its 40th birthday with an A24’s new 4K restoration. Considered one of the best concert films of all time, director Jonathan Demme follows core Talking Heads band members David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, and Jerry Harrison along with Bernie Worrell, Alex Weir, Steve Scales, Lynn Mabry, and Edna Holt across three live performances at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater in December 1983.

Another A24 streaming debut for Max this month. The critically acclaimed wrestling drama tells the true story of the inseparable Von Erich brothers, who made history in the intensely competitive world of professional wrestling in the early 1980s. Per the official description, “Through tragedy and triumph, under the shadow of their domineering father and coach, the brothers seek larger-than-life immortality on the biggest stage in sports.” Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White, and Harris Dickinson lead the cast opposite Stanley Simons, Maura Tierney, Holt McCallany, Stanley Simons, Lily James, Maxwell Friedman, and more.

“Nikki Glaser: Someday You’ll Die” | Saturday, May 11
Nikki Glaser returns to the scene of the crime for her second HBO special after 2022’s “Good Clean Filth.” The special, which was taped in front of a sold-out audience at the Moore Theater in Seattle, Washington, last December, will cover a wide range of life and death discussions, from not wanting kids to the harsh realities of aging and plans for her own death. It will premiere May 11 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO with streaming available simultaneously on Max.
