The 7 best action-comedies to stream right now

Explosions, insults, and at least one movie that’s way smarter than it looks.

here are the best action comedy movies on streaming right now.

Ever since I saw “A Knight's Tale” at 16-years-old, I’ve loved action comedies. Sure, they don’t always cater to the highest form of art, but they’re not supposed to. They’re supposed to be fast, violent (but never really violent), funny, and most importantly, FUN. And we could all use a little more fun these days. That said, the No. 1 pick on this list is definitely headier than the average action comedy and is well worth watching (again, if you haven’t seen it). So, here’s my personal list of the best action-comedy movies on streaming right now.

Top 7 action-comedy movies on streaming right now

No. 7: ‘The Naked Gun’ (2025) | Prime Video

“The Naked Gun” brings back the beautifully dumb, deadpan energy of the original movies, only this time Liam Neeson steps in as Frank Drebin Jr., a detective who takes himself very seriously while absolutely everything around him falls apart. He’s investigating a suspicious tech death and trying to save Police Squad from being turned into a Spirit Halloween, which tells you exactly what kind of movie this is.

The plot barely matters, and that’s the point. Every clue leads to a gag, while every dramatic moment collapses into a visual joke. And Neeson plays it completely straight the whole time, which makes it even funnier. And the supporting cast (including Pamela Anderson and Paul Walter Hauser) leans into the chaos without winking at the camera. It feels like a genuine revival instead of a forgettable reboot, and for me, it was the funniest movie of the year. Watch it.

Only one man has the particular set of skills… to lead Police Squad and save the world: Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. Following in his father’s footsteps, he must solve a murder case to prevent Police Squad from closure.

No. 6: ‘Novocaine’ (2025) | Prime Video

“Novocaine” is built on one of those instantly great hooks I wish I came up with. A regular guy who literally can’t feel pain turns into an accidental action hero when his coworker gets kidnapped during a robbery. Jack Quaid plays Nathan as this awkward, nice dude who slowly realizes that getting punched through walls and shot at isn’t a problem for him.

The movie has a comic book vibe without actually being a comic book movie, and it commits fully to the physical comedy of it all. He walks through chaos like it’s an inconvenience. The action is tight, the jokes land, and somehow it still manages to be kind of sweet underneath all the broken bones. It’s fast, it’s ridiculous, and it was one of my favorite movies of last year.

When the girl of his dreams is kidnapped, everyman Nate turns his inability to feel pain into an unexpected strength in his fight to get her back.

No. 5: ‘Minecraft: The Movie’ (2025) | Prime Video

I was skeptical walking into “Minecraft,” I’ll admit it, but it won me over fast. Four misfits fall into the Overworld, and suddenly they’re crafting tools, fighting mobs, and trying to survive inside the blocky logic of the game.

The movie actually respects the rules of Minecraft, which makes it way funnier when you see characters punching trees or scrambling to build shelter before nightfall. For me, Jack Black steals the show, with his endless enthusiasm coming through every scene he’s in, as he leans into the absurdity without mocking it. The tone is playful, the action is wonderfully creative, and the cast has great chemistry bouncing off the game’s weird mechanics. Even if you’ve never played a second of Minecraft, it works as a goofy, high-energy adventure that just keeps moving. Oh, and it’s directed by Jared Hess, the same guy who did “Napoleon Dynamite.” Who knew!

A Minecraft Movie

Four misfits find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they’ll have to master this world while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve.

No. 4: ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’ (2022) | MovieSphere

If you’ve ever wanted to watch Nicholas Cage play himself in an action-comedy, “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” is the movie for you. In this movie, he’s broke and desperate enough to attend a super fan’s birthday party for a paycheck, only to get dragged into a spy situation that forces him to channel every over-the-top role he’s ever done.

The friendship at the center is the real magic of this movie. Cage and Pedro Pascal have this chaotic, oddly sincere chemistry that turns the movie into a full-blown bromance. It’s part action movie, part Hollywood satire, and part love letter to Cage’s own career. The set pieces are wild, the meta jokes are sharp, and somehow it still sneaks in a little emotional punch. Yes, it’s a weird movie, but it’s a fun one.

Creatively unfulfilled and facing financial ruin, Nick Cage must accept a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a dangerous superfan. Things take a wildly unexpected turn when Cage is recruited by a CIA operative and forced to live up to his own legend, channeling his most iconic and beloved on-screen characters in order to save himself and his loved ones.

No. 3: ‘Heads of State’ (2025) | Prime Video

I’ve been all over Prime Video’s action comedies lately, and “Heads of State” is one of my favorites. It throws the U.S. president and the British prime minister into the worst possible road trip and lets the chaos unfold. John Cena plays a swaggering former action star turned president, Idris Elba plays the serious, slightly exhausted prime minister, and after Air Force One goes down (the sequence is pretty awesome, even on the small screen), they’re stuck trekking through hostile territory together.

The movie leans into the buddy comedy formula, and that’s exactly why it works. The insults are constant, the action is big and messy, and the villains are just unhinged enough to keep things moving. It feels like a throwback in the best way, and I never got tired of Elba being exasperated by Cena’s outrageousness. If you’re looking for a new buddy-comedy adventure, you can’t do better than this.

The UK Prime Minister and US President have a public rivalry that risks their countries’ alliance. But when they become targets of a powerful enemy, they’re forced to rely on each other as they go on a wild, multinational run. Allied with Noel, a brilliant MI6 agent, they must find a way to thwart a conspiracy that threatens the free world.

No. 2: ‘The Wrecking Crew’ (2026) | Prime Video

Based on the name of the movie, and the actors in it, you can pretty much imagine what’s going to happen in “The Wrecking Crew.” Two beasts of human beings, Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista, play estranged half-brothers forced to team up after their father’s suspicious death, and the entire movie is basically an excuse to let them punch their way through a conspiracy in Hawaii.

This is the kind of movie where the plot is secondary, and the vibe is everything. Momoa plays the loose cannon, Bautista plays the tightly wound bruiser, and watching them clash is half the fun. The action is overblown, the jokes are shameless, and it has that unapologetic big-dumb-fun energy that reminds you why this genre works in the first place as long as you come in with the right expectations.

The Wrecking Crew

January 28, 2026

Estranged half-brothers Jonny and James reunite after their father’s mysterious death. As they search for the truth, buried secrets reveal a conspiracy threatening to tear their family apart.

No. 1: ‘One Battle After Another’ (2025) | HBO Max

“One Battle After Another” is easily the boldest movie on this list. Tara and I saw this one in theaters after some great word of mouth, and it was incredible. The story follows former revolutionaries, one of whom is played by Leonardo DiCaprio, whose past explodes back into the present when a fascist colonel (played by the hilarious Sean Penn) kidnaps his teenage daughter, forcing the old gang to regroup for one last mission.

It’s political, absurd, emotional, and somehow still very funny in the middle of all the chaos. The action sequences feel electric, the humor is consistent without undercutting the stakes, and the father-daughter core gives it some real emotional weight. It’s just a big movie: big swings, big ideas, big performances, and by the end, it feels like you watched a revolution, a comedy, and a family drama all at once. It’s long, but I also didn’t want it to end. If you missed this one in theaters, don’t think, just watch it.
