From stuntmen to spies, these action comedies movies on Prime Video go big
‘Deep Cover’ leads the pack with a wild improv-gone-wrong premise that actually works.
I’ve been deep in the sketch comedy trenches this past year, and my wife’s been diving headfirst into improv — so yeah, when I saw that Prime Video had a new movie where an improv team goes undercover, it was a no brainer. “Deep Cover” takes a bunch of clueless performers and drops them into a real criminal operation, and you can probably guess how that goes. That got me thinking of other action comedies on Prime Video, and it turns out they have a pretty strong lineup. So, if you like your laughs with a side of grenade, here are the best action-comedy movies streaming on Prime Video right now.
Top 7 action-comedy movies streaming on Prime Video right now:
No. 7: ‘Shotgun Wedding’ (2022)
My wife and I watched “Shotgun Wedding” when it first came out — mostly because that title is fantastic and we’ll always show up for Jennifer Lopez in an action comedy. This movie is exactly what you think it is: fast, fun, and just the right amount of ridiculous. J.Lo and Josh Duhamel play a couple whose tropical destination wedding gets hijacked by pirates. With their big day in chaos, they have to team up, outrun the bad guys, and somehow not kill each other in the process. Ridiculous? Yes. But also exactly what you want from this kind of movie.
Shotgun Wedding
Darcy and Tom gather their families for the ultimate destination wedding but when the entire party is taken hostage, “’Til Death Do Us Part” takes on a whole new meaning. Now, Darcy and Tom must save their loved ones—if they don’t kill each other first.
No. 6: ‘My Spy’ (2020)
“My Spy” is your classic tough-guy-meets-precocious-kid setup, and honestly? It works. Dave Bautista plays a CIA agent who gets outsmarted by a 9-year-old girl after he’s assigned to spy on her family. She blackmails him into teaching her how to be a spy, and next thing you know, they’re running stakeouts and dodging danger together. It’s silly in all the right ways, with just enough heart to balance the slapstick. Sure, the plot is predictable, and if you’re looking for complexity, you won’t find it here. But you will get two great performances and a fun watch that is not meant to be taken seriously.
My Spy
A hardened CIA operative finds himself at the mercy of a precocious 9-year-old girl, having been sent undercover to surveil her family.
No. 5: ‘Hot Pursuit’ (2015)
“Hot Pursuit” is one of those loud, goofy road-trip comedies where everything that can go wrong absolutely does. Reese Witherspoon plays a by-the-book cop trying to protect Sofía Vergara’s character — a widow of a drug boss — on their way to testify in court. Cue car chases, disguises, and a whole lot of yelling (because these two are perfect opposites together). It’s chaotic, ridiculous, and pretty much built for a night when you want to laugh hard, not think hard.
Hot Pursuit
Straight-arrow policewoman Cooper is excited and thrilled about her next assignment. Her task is to escort Daniella Riva, a wisecracking Colombian beauty, from San Antonio to Dallas so both she and her husband can testify against a drug lord. Plans go awry when Mr. Riva gets ambushed, leaving Daniella a widow. Cooper and her witness must now use their wits to escape from crooked cops and murderous gunmen, while not killing each other in the process.
No. 4: ‘My Spy: The Eternal City’ (2024)
The first one worked so well that they made a sequel. “My Spy: The Eternal City” sends JJ and Sophie to Italy for what should be a chill school choir trip… until stolen nukes, a kidnapping, and a Vatican-sized crisis blow everything up. Dave Bautista’s now a behind-the-desk CIA guy, but when Sophie’s class gets invited to sing for the Pope, he tags along as a chaperone — and of course, chaos follows. It’s got the same broad, goofy jokes, high-stakes action, and fun spy set pieces from the first movie, except now they’re galivanting across Rome, Venice, and Florence. If you were into the first one, this sequel goes bigger without losing the fun.
My Spy The Eternal City
JJ, a veteran CIA agent, reunites with his protégé Sophie, in order to prevent a catastrophic nuclear plot targeting the Vatican.
No. 3: ‘The Fall Guy’ (2024)
My wife and I both loved “The Fall Guy” when it dropped, and now with “Deep Cover” scratching that same itch, Prime Video is kind of killing it with original action comedies. Ryan Gosling plays a stuntman dragged out of retirement to track down a missing movie star — only to find out the film is being directed by his ex, played by Emily Blunt. It’s got romantic tension, big stunts, and way more heart than you’d expect. If you want action with charm (and a few slow-mo explosions), this one absolutely delivers.
The Fall Guy
Fresh off an almost career-ending accident, stuntman Colt Seavers has to track down a missing movie star, solve a conspiracy and try to win back the love of his life while still doing his day job.
No. 2: ‘The Accountant 2’ (2025)
“The Accountant 2” isn’t a full-on action comedy, but the dynamic between Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal gives it that buddy-movie energy. Affleck’s back as the math-genius assassin, and this time he’s teaming up with his brother (Bernthal) for a new high-stakes job. The plot leans thriller, but the best parts are when the two leads are bouncing off each other — deadpan meets chaos in the best way. It’s sharp, violent, and surprisingly funny when it wants to be.
The Accountant²
When an old acquaintance is murdered, Wolff is compelled to solve the case. Realizing more extreme measures are necessary, Wolff recruits his estranged and highly lethal brother, Brax, to help. In partnership with Marybeth Medina, they uncover a deadly conspiracy, becoming targets of a ruthless network of killers who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried.
No. 1: ‘Deep Cover’ (2025)
“Deep Cover” is built around my favorite kind of setup — clueless comedy people thrown into extremely high-stakes situations. In this case, it’s an improv troupe that somehow end up infiltrating a criminal operation, and it’s just as chaotic and hilarious as it sounds. But a great premise only gets you so far, and thankfully, this one heightens the bit perfectly (my improv peeps know exactly what I mean). The cast is sharp, the jokes hit, and it’s easily one of the best original movies Prime Video has dropped in years, making it the best action-comedy movie streaming on the platform right now.
Deep Cover
Kat is an improv comedy teacher beginning to question if she’s missed her shot at success. When an undercover cop offers her the role of a lifetime, she recruits two of her students to infiltrate London’s gangland by impersonating dangerous criminals.
