The best movies you can watch on AMC+ this week

The best movies you can watch on AMC+ this week

A strange, fun mix of new horror, crime thrillers, indie gems, and Mel Brooks chaos makes AMC+ worth digging into right now.

With a background in film and branded content, he covers sports and entertainment with sharp insight and creativity. A longtime Oilers fan, he’s still holding out hope for a Stanley Cup run.
These are the best 7 movies streaming on AMC+ as of May, 2026.

AMC+ has quietly become one of those streamers I keep coming back to when I’m tired of scrolling the same big platforms. I just did a full pass through the AMC+ movie library, so I already knew there were some great movies in here. Once you start poking around, the mix really reveals itself. You’ve got new Shudder horror, weird psychological thrillers, odd little indies, old-school crime stories, and even Mel Brooks doing full spoof mode. So, here are my picks for the top seven movies streaming on AMC+ right now.

Top 7 movies streaming on AMC+ right now:

No. 7: ‘Neighborhood Watch’ (2025) | Crime thriller

“Neighborhood Watch” kicks off with a nightmare scenario. Simon McNally witnesses a woman being forced into a van, and when he tries to tell people what happened, no one believes him. Every attempt he makes to explain what he saw only raises more doubts about his credibility. When the police refuse to take him seriously, Simon turns to his gruff, recently retired neighbor Ed Deerman for help.

From there, the movie settles into a tense, old-school crime thriller groove. The real hook isn’t just the mystery of what happened to the woman. It’s the uneasy partnership between two men who don’t fully trust each other but need one another to move forward. Their relationship starts prickly and skeptical, then, like all good movies, deepens emotionally as the story unfolds. If you want a crime thriller with a bit of a different feel, check it out.

No. 6: ‘The Plague’ (2025) | Psychological thriller

If you want something darker and weirder on AMC+, “The Plague” is a really strong pick. It’s about Ben, a nervous 12-year-old kid at an all-boys water polo camp who gets pulled into this awful social game where the other boys decide one awkward camper has “the plague.” So, yeah, it’s not really a disease movie. It’s more about how kids can turn fear, insecurity, and wanting to fit in into something genuinely brutal.

What makes it work is that it treats middle-school panic like a horror movie. Every locker room stare, every poolside joke, every little test of loyalty feels way more intense than it should, which is exactly what being that age can feel like. The young cast is great, the water polo setting gives the whole thing this sweaty, trapped vibe, and the movie really understands how terrifying it is to be the kid everyone decides is weird. Not exactly a “fun hang,” but if you want something tense, smart, and mean in a way that sticks with you, this is the one.

The Plague

December 24, 2025

A socially awkward tween endures the ruthless hierarchy at a water polo camp, his anxiety spiraling into psychological turmoil over the summer.

No. 5: ‘The Baltimorons’ (2025) | Romantic dramedy

I’ve always loved Jay Duplass, and he directs this indie gem, “The Baltimorons.” The movie unfolds over one long, wandering night when Cliff, a recovering alcoholic, visits his fiancée’s family for the holidays. He then breaks a tooth and ends up crossing paths with Didi, the dentist who treats him. A towed car and a missed ride keep pulling them together, and before long, they’re drifting through Baltimore side by side.

What makes the movie charming is how loose and unforced it feels. That’s to be expected based on Duplass’ history of indie filmmaking, but there’s something comforting in the meandering conversations, awkward pauses, and real chemistry between the leads that feels natural rather than scripted. Sure, there’s a romantic spark, but it’s tangled up with bad timing, personal baggage, and the quiet realization that both characters are still wrestling with their pasts. It’s not a classic rom-com because it stays grounded in something a little more human and bittersweet, and it’s all the better for it.

June 29, 2025

A newly sober man’s Christmas Eve dental emergency leads to an unexpected romance with his older dentist as they explore Baltimore together.

No. 4: ‘Spaceballs’ (1987) | Sci-fi spoof

I’ve been watching “Spaceballs” since I was a kid, and it still somehow makes me laugh every time. Obviously, it’s a “Star Wars” spoof, and that setup is really just an excuse for Mel Brooks to fire off joke after joke.

Everything here is broad on purpose. Lone Starr, Barf, Dark Helmet, Yogurt. Every character feels designed to land a punchline. What still works so well is how affectionate the parody feels. It’s poking fun at sci-fi, but it clearly loves it too. “May the Schwartz be with you” still gets said way more often than it should, and I’m all for it.

Spaceballs

June 24, 1987

When the nefarious Dark Helmet hatches a plan to snatch Princess Vespa and steal her planet’s air, space-bum-for-hire Lone Starr and his clueless sidekick fly to the rescue. Along the way, they meet Yogurt, who puts Lone Starr wise to the power of “The Schwartz.” Can he master it in time to save the day?

No. 3: ‘Mandy’ (2018) | Horror

“Mandy” starts quietly, almost hypnotically. Red Miller lives an isolated life with his partner Mandy, until a violent cult shatters everything in one horrifying night. What follows is less a straight revenge story and more a descent into a neon-soaked nightmare.

The first half moves slowly, letting the dread seep in, then the movie snaps and becomes something feral. Nicolas Cage taps into a completely unfiltered intensity, and the film leans hard into surreal imagery, heavy-metal energy, and brutal confrontations. It’s intense, yes, but also strangely mesmerizing. If you’re in the mood for something bold and completely uncompromising, this one delivers.

Mandy

September 13, 2018

The Shadow Mountains, 1983. Red and Mandy lead a loving and peaceful existence; but when their pine-scented haven is savagely destroyed, Red is catapulted into a phantasmagoric journey filled with bloody vengeance and laced with fire.

No. 2: ‘Influencers’ (2025) | Horror thriller

“Influencers” picks up with a killer who has learned how to weaponize online identity. The story moves through glamorous travel destinations and curated social feeds, following characters who live for likes, attention, and manufactured personas. When those identities start collapsing, things turn violent fast.

The movie leans into satire without losing its edge. It keeps flipping your sympathies and daring you to sit with that discomfort. One minute you’re entertained by the absurdity of influencer culture and the next, you’re watching it spiral into something seriously disturbing. It’s sharp, messy, and hard to look away from, which makes it a perfect fit for AMC+’s offbeat lineup.

Influencers

July 26, 2025

In the picturesque landscapes of Southern France, a young woman’s chilling fascination with murder and identity theft sends her life into a whirlwind of chaos.

No. 1: ‘Good Boy’ (2025) | Canine horror

“Good Boy” sounds like a gimmick on paper. A horror movie told from a dog’s point of view shouldn’t work this well. Indy is a loyal dog who retreats to an eerie inherited house with his owner, immediately sensing that something is deeply wrong. Strange sounds, unsettling visions, and an invisible presence slowly start closing in.

What makes the movie click is how fully it commits to Indy’s perspective. Every noise feels amplified. Every shadow feels threatening. You’re constantly trying to read the environment the way a dog would. As the tension builds, the emotional core sneaks up on you, too, where loyalty, protection, and that unspoken bond between a dog and their person drive the story forward. It’s tense, surprisingly heartfelt, and a genuinely unique horror experience that feels perfect for AMC+. Check it out.
