The best comedy to watch first on Tubi is "Archer"

Why ‘Archer’ is the must-watch comedy on Tubi

I’ve loved spy stories forever. I’ve read every James Bond novel, and I’m always hunting for shows that scratch that same itch. “Archer” grabbed me because it blends that classic spy-world cool with a level of unhinged humor that made me laugh harder than most live-action comedies. The very first episode lets you know this show isn’t messing around. One minute you’re watching a suave secret agent about to get tortured for information, and the next he’s arguing with his mother about his code name (it was named after her favorite dog, RIP). It’s the exact mix of chaos and espionage I’ve always wanted.

The humor is fast, filthy, and relentless. Characters fire off insults and one-liners so quickly that you barely have time to recover before the next joke hits. It’s sharp. It’s adult. And it absolutely doesn’t shy away from going too far. That’s a big part of why I love it. The show’s writers throw out double entendres, absurd references, and punchlines that snap like whiplash. When I say you need to pay attention, I mean it. Blink, and you’ll miss something genuinely hilarious.

What really makes the early seasons special is how perfectly they nail the spy parody vibe. The world looks like a Cold War comic book, but everyone talks like they’re living in the 2010s. Gadgets feel retro. Cars look vintage. The overall style is this cool blend that makes the office of ISIS feel like a twisted mash-up of “James Bond” and your weirdest day job. That mix of spy action and workplace chaos is exactly what sets the tone, and for me, it’s the ideal setting for comedy.

Then there’s the cast, which is honestly one of the best ensembles in animation. Sterling Archer is a complete disaster of a human being, but H. Jon Benjamin (you’ll also recognize him in “Bob’s Burgers”) makes Archer irresistibly funny. Malory Archer rules the office with terrifying confidence. Lana Kane is the only competent adult in the room and has zero patience for the nonsense around her. Cheryl, Pam, Cyril, Krieger, and Ray all bring their own brand of chaos. Each character has a distinct voice and a set of running jokes that take on a life of their own, and once you spend a few episodes with them, they’ll start to feel like the unhinged family you didn’t know you needed.

On top of that, the writing is just so tight. Every joke has a setup. Every callback lands. Even the bit where characters argue about the word “phrasing” becomes this ongoing masterpiece of timing and delivery. You get big action scenes, ridiculous missions, and office drama all wrapped in a script packed with jokes that reward you for sticking around. And with 14 seasons for free on Tubi, you’re not going to run out anytime soon.

And even though I’m focusing on the early seasons here, the show never goes stale. “Archer” reinvents itself more than once. You get a “Miami Vice“-style season, a noir detective arc, a surreal island adventure, and even a full sci-fi storyline. But the heart of the show stays the same. And that’s why it’s this rare, long-running comedy that is a must-watch on Tubi.

What is ‘Archer’ about?

“Archer” follows Sterling Archer, a brilliant but wildly self-absorbed secret agent who works at a private spy agency run by his mother. Missions should be simple, but nothing ever goes according to plan. Spy operations turn into personal grudges. Gunfights get interrupted by petty office drama. The whole agency is full of eccentric weirdos who somehow manage to function just well enough to keep the world from collapsing.

The show leans hard into fast pacing and character-driven plots. Every episode throws Archer and the team into some kind of high-stakes operation that they inevitably make worse through incompetence, ego, or both. But even with the constant chaos, the tone stays fun. It’s the kind of show that gives you action, jokes, and character moments all at once. And with all 14 seasons on Tubi, you can watch the entire evolution from classic spy spoof to genre-bending experiment without paying a cent.

Other must-stream comedy shows on Tubi

If you want another great comedy after finishing “Archer,” start with “Everybody Hates Chris.” This one is a narrator-driven sitcom based on Chris Rock’s childhood, and it’s one of the most consistently funny family comedies out there. It’s a total comfort watch and a great follow-up if you want something with heart. After that, go with “Blue Mountain State.” This one is ridiculous in the best way. It’s raunchy, loud, and completely over the top, following a fictional college football program where the players care more about partying than actually winning. And finally, for pure physical comedy, try “Mr. Bean.” Rowan Atkinson barely talks, but somehow delivers some of the funniest scenes ever put on TV. It’s simple. It’s chaotic. And it’s still funny decades later.
