Tubi announces new ad formats coming soon
The updates include new pause ads, carousels that let viewers scroll through ad info, and more.
The Interactive Advertising Bureau’s NewFronts event has begun! This yearly event is the digital version of the traditional television UpFronts, where companies show off what they have coming in order to court advertisers to spend money on their channels, streamers, and platforms. This week, the Fox-owned free streaming service Tubi has used the opportunity to announce a series of new ad formats and partnerships, meaning that viewers will soon begin to see new types of advertisements when they use the ad-supported streaming service.
Key Details:
- Wrap it up: Tubi Wrappers will allow studios to take over the streamer’s home page.
- Pause and reflect: Animated pause ads will allow advertisers more creative possibilities.
- Around the carousel: Ad carousels will let viewers scroll through tiles to see brand imagery and more.
As announced at its IAB NewFronts presentation on Tuesday, Tubi is gearing up to launch a host of new ad formats that customers will see on the streamer in the coming months. The first type is Tubi Wrappers, which will allow studios to rule the Tubi home page to promote upcoming releases with auto-play trailers, a call to action, and animated backgrounds.
The streamer will also introduce new pause ad formats that come with looping video backgrounds, in hopes that advertisers will take advantage of the more creative opportunities that video ads can provide. The streamer already offers static pause ads, but animated ones will bring a new flavor to the service.
Tubi is also rolling out what it calls Tubi Moments, which capture the tone, sentiment, and visual cues of a scene to allow ads to appear in the most relevant content moments. These will be subtle moments that allow viewers to experience an ad, potentially without even realizing one is occurring.
As seen in the image at the top of the article, Tubi is also introducing an ad carousel that lets viewers to scroll through brand imagery, and even access a QR code to shop a product or learn more information. These carousels will be prominently featured at the top of the screen.
Tubi Storefronts will let viewers shop collections of goods like clothing, home goods, and more, inspired directly by the type of content a customer is watching.
All of these new types of ads will begin rolling out on Tubi soon, so devotees of the streamer should keep an eye out for them. Whether or not Tubi viewers will enjoy the new types of ads is an open question, but the streamer is making no secret that it wants to boost engagement with its ads even further.
