Does Xumo Play give you any control over autoplay?
Does Xumo Play give you any control over autoplay?
Even compared to other free streamers, Xumo Play doesn’t offer much control over autoplay.
Xumo Play gives viewers the chance to stream a wide variety of free, ad-supported content, from news, sports, and weather channels to on-demand TV episodes and movies. The service comes pre-loaded on the Xumo Stream Box device, but anyone can use it on connected TV devices, smartphones, and on the web.
Autoplay is not a setting Xumo Play is afraid to lean into, but does it give you any power to turn it off? Read more about what I found when digging into Xumo Play’s autoplay options here.
Everything you need to know about autoplay on Xumo Play
Can you control autoplay on Xumo Play?
I investigated the autoplay settings on Xumo Play on my smart TV, my Samsung phone, and my Amazon Fire TV. On none of these devices did I find a way to adjust the autoplay settings in any way, shape, or form with Xumo Play. The most I could do was mute the autoplay window that pops up with the Xumo Play live guide, and only on select devices.
In my research, I came across one Reddit thread in which a now-deleted user outlines a way to turn off autoplay using the Xumo Stream Box remote. It may, therefore, be possible to edit autoplay settings on this device, but that may be the only one that allows it.
Viewers can mute the autoplay window on Xumo Play while watching on mobile devices, as well as on the web. The only way to do this that I found while watching on the Xumo Play connected TV app was to mute my television. I also did not see any way to control whether Xumo plays a new episode once you’re finished streaming your current selection.
Will Xumo Play add autoplay controls in the future?
There’s no official word on the matter from Xumo itself, but it would hardly be a surprise to see the streamer add new innovations like control over autoplay settings. Xumo Play is part of the larger Xumo joint venture between Comcast and Charter Communications, and the two companies are quite proud of the platform. They will likely continue updating it in the years to come, so the addition of autoplay control settings isn’t out of the question.
