Price Changes Coming to Disney+, ESPN+, Hulu, & Hulu + Live TV – How Much is Each Service Increasing?

Ben Bowman

The Disney Bundle is about to cost a bundle of cash. Today, the streaming giant announced sweeping price hikes for each of its services. We’ll break down the changes and how subscribers will be affected.

There will be three different dates important to subscribers:

  • August 23, 2022 - ESPN+ price hikes
  • October 10, 2022 - Hulu price hikes
  • December 8, 2022 - Disney+ & Hulu + Live TV price hikes

Disney+ (Standalone)

If you subscribe to Disney+, things will change for you on December 8, 2022. That’s the day an ad-supported version of Disney+ becomes available.

Service Current Price December 8 Price
Disney+ Premium (No ads) $7.99/month $10.99/month
Disney+ Basic (With ads) N/A $7.99/month

If you’re sure you want Disney+ for a full year, you can save nearly $22 by getting an annual plan ($109.99/year).

Hulu (On Demand, Standalone)

If you only subscribe to Hulu on demand, your prices are going up October 10, 2022.

Service Current Price October 10 Price
Hulu Premium (No ads) $12.99/month $14.99/month
Hulu Basic (With ads) $6.99/month $7.99/month

Strangely, you cannot subscribe to a full year of Hulu without ads, but if you want a full year of the ad-supported service, you will save about $16 with the annual plan ($79.99/year).

ESPN+ (Standalone)

Disney previously announced the upcoming ESPN+ price hike, set for August 23, 2022.

Service Current Price August 23 Price
ESPN+ with ads $6.99/month $9.99/month
UFC PPV $74.99/event $74.99/event
UFC PPV + Annual $124.98

Disney Bundle

If you want to keep your damage to a minimum, there is a benefit to subscribing to the Disney Bundle before December 8. If you do that, you will get a “legacy” rate as long as you don’t unsubscribe.

Disney Bundle Current Price December 8 Price
Basic (With Ads): Disney+, Hulu $2.99/month $9.99/month
Basic (With Ads): Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ N/A $12.99/month

Unfortunately, there is no annual plan for the Disney Bundle.

  • Disney+

The Disney streaming service will cost £7.99 / month, or £79.99 / year (£6.67 / month).

The app supports 4K streaming, unlimited downloads, 4 simultaneous streams, up to 7 profiles, with hundreds of avatars for your personal profile.

The first year will include 25 new original series, 10+ movies, 7,500 past episodes, 100 recent movies, and 400 library titles including the entire Disney Vault. New releases like “Toy Story 4”, “The Lion King”, “Aladdin” and classics like “The Little Mermaid” and “Cinderella” will be available to stream.

The company announced original shows and movies that will be available at launch, including the $100 million 8-episode Star Wars spin-off, “The Mandalorian”, “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” “The World According To Jeff Goldblum,” “Lady and the Tramp,” and “The Imagineering Story.”

  • ESPN+

ESPN+ is a live TV streaming service that gives access to thousands of live sporting events, original shows like Peyton’s Place, the entire library of 30 for 30, E:60, The Last Dance, as well exclusive written analysis from top ESPN insiders.

The service can be subscribed for US$9.99 / month per month or annually for US$99.99 / year.

You will get a daily out-of-market game from MLB, and every out-of-market NHL with NHL Power Play (previously NHL.TV). For NFL Fans, they have an exclusive NFL game, and simulcast select Monday Football games.

The service has some of the most attractive soccer coverage including Bundesliga, LaLiga, FA Cup, UEFA Nations League, EFL Championship, EFL Carabao Cup, Eredevise and more.

College sports fans will be able to watch thousands of games and events including football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, track & field, gymnastics, swimming & diving, lacrosse, wrestling, volleyball, golf, and more.

For boxing and UFC fans, the service offers Top Rank boxing and will be the home of 15 exclusive UFC events.

ESPN+ now includes exclusive insights from analysts like Mel Kiper and Todd McShay (which used to be part of ESPN Insider), as well as premium Fantasy Tools & PickCenter.

What it does not include is most live sports that air on ESPN AND ESPN2.

To get access to those channels you have to subscribe to a live TV streaming service. We suggest reading our guide on How to Watch ESPN without Cable.

  • Hulu

Hulu is a video streaming service that gives access to thousands of full seasons of exclusive series, hit movies, kids shows, and Hulu Originals like The Handmaid's Tale.

It offers a good selection of current TV shows and its ad-supported tier is cheaper than both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. You will be able to watch most shows from networks like ABC and Fox, and cable channels like FXX, FXM, HGTV, and more.

The service has a Limited Commercials plan for US$7.99 a month, or you can upgrade to their No Ads plan for US$14.99 a month. For US$69.99 a month, you can get Hulu Live TV from major cable channels, live locals and regional sports networks.

  • Hulu Live TV

Hulu Live TV is a live TV streaming service with more than 70 channels for US$69.99/month. Hulu + Live TV base plan includes local channels, 33 of the top 35 cable channels, and regional sports networks (RSNs). Subscribers get free access to Disney+ and ESPN+ at no extra charge.

And speaking of content, while Disney controls both Hulu and ABC, local Sinclair affiliates who broadcast ABC were dropped from Hulu on March 8, 2023 due to a carriage dispute. This means that in 28 markets (such as Portland, Seattle, San Antonio, Rochester, and others) subscribers will no longer see primetime ABC airings or local ABC news on Hulu Live TV until the dispute is resolved. Check here for a full list of affected ABC markets.

That being said, for the content that Hulu Live TV has (which is plenty), the service provides an unlimited DVR with the ability to skip through commercials. You also have the option to upgrade for premium channels, unlimited screens, and commercial-free access to Hulu’s on-demand library.
