What features are available on Plex?
Plex profiles are free to create. If you share your library with others, you can decide which content is available to which users. Plex Pass users can create subprofiles under their own account so you could further control what the members of your household can access.
Within your own library, Plex allows you to control what media is shared with which users. This feature is incredibly powerful, and you could choose to limit children to a very narrow range of content, slowly increasing their viewing options as they age.
For free on demand content, you will encounter periodic ad breaks. Ads will not appear if you’re streaming content from your hard drive or from an account that has been shared with you.
Media can be downloaded to your device if you upgrade to the Plex Pass level.
Plex offers a wide range of shows, primarily through its live virtual channels. Networks like Stories by AMC, Dove Channel, IGN, Kidoodle TV, AMC Thrillers, Revry, and Nosey provide 24/7 entertainment.
There are also some throwback guilty pleasures available on demand, like “ALF,” “T.J. Hooker,” “Unsolved Mysteries,” and “21 Jump Street.”
Plex features lots of movies from libraries including Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, Lionsgate, and Legendary. It aggregates titles from other services like Crackle and Popcornflix as well.
You won’t find many blockbusters here, but there is a rotating catalog that might include films like “The Terminal,” “Melancholia,” “Van Wilder,” “Super Size Me,” and “Black Sheep.”
There is a small selection of family films and shows available, including “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi,” “Paulie,” “The Real Ghostbusters,” and “Davey and Goliath.” It’s not much, and it’s better supplemented by media from your own library.
