These are the best action movies you can stream on Max right now

From Middle-earth to Gotham, this is why Max is a must for action fans.

With a background in film and branded content, he covers sports and entertainment with sharp insight and creativity. A longtime Oilers fan, he’s still holding out hope for a Stanley Cup run.
The best streamer for action movies is Max because it's got more of the best action franchises.

When done right, action movies deliver some of the most thrilling movie-watching experiences out there. Whether it’s superheroes saving the day, heart-pounding car chases, or jaw-dropping martial arts showdowns, these films know how to keep you hooked. And it’s not all about gunfights - there’s just as much excitement in machetes, improvised weapons, and gritty, close-quarters combat. Throw in some unforgettable one-liners from the 80s and 90s, and you’ve got a genre that keeps the adrenaline pumping. If you’re wondering which streamer has the best selection of action movies, for me, it’s an easy pick: Max. Here’s why it’s my go-to for action movie fans.

Everything you need to know about the best streamer for action movies:

What action movies can you watch on Max?

The reason why Max is my favorite streamer for watching action movies is that it’s got a lot of the big-name franchises. Let’s start with the visually stunning epic “Dune”, directed by Denis Villeneuve. I loved both of these movies, where you’re transported to the desert planet of Arrakis, where Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) is thrown into a world of power struggles, betrayal, and survival as his family fights to control the planet’s most valuable resource. With breathtaking visuals, a gripping story, and a haunting score, “Dune” pulls you into its world like few movies can. And the story doesn’t stop there - its sequel, “Dune: Part 2,” picks up right where the first film left off, as Paul steps into his destiny, leading a rebellion to avenge his family and claim his place as a leader.

No list of epic action movies is complete without mentioning the “Mad Max” universe. It all begins with the gritty original, “Mad Max” (1979), directed by George Miller, which introduced audiences to a post-apocalyptic world where society has crumbled, and survival is everything. Mel Gibson stars as Max Rockatansky, a police officer turned lone warrior, battling against ruthless gangs in a desolate wasteland. Fast forward to the newest chapter in the saga, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” which expands on the universe with awesome visuals, intense action, and a story that delves deeper into the chaos of the wasteland. This franchise spikes my heart rate like few other movies can do - the action is that good.

And if you’re ready for a gritty, sci-fi action classic, look no further than “RoboCop.” Directed by Paul Verhoeven, this genre-defining film tells the story of Alex Murphy, a Detroit police officer killed in the line of duty and resurrected as a cutting-edge cyborg law enforcer. Set in a dystopian future where crime and corruption run rampant, RoboCop’s journey is packed with intense action, biting satire, and a surprising amount of heart. “RoboCop” remains a towering achievement in sci-fi action - and it’s streaming now on Max.

For high-stakes action with a modern twist, don’t miss the most recent installment from the Bourne franchise, “Jason Bourne.” Paul Greengrass directs this installment that sees Matt Damon return as the rogue agent with unmatched combat skills and a knack for outsmarting his enemies. Still searching for answers about his past, Bourne dives deeper into a world of espionage, government secrets, and deadly conspiracies, all while delivering the awesome car chases, brutal fight scenes, and edge-of-your-seat suspense that has made this franchise what it is. With its globe-trotting locations and relentless pace, “Jason Bourne” is a must-watch for action fans - especially if you’re read the books like I have.

If you’re in the mood for a mind-bending mix of action, comedy, and sci-fi, don’t miss “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, this wild ride follows Evelyn Wang (played by Michelle Yeoh), a laundromat owner who discovers she’s the key to saving the multiverse. Along the way, she taps into the skills and lives of her alternate-universe selves, all while dealing with family drama, existential questions, and some of the most creative fight scenes you’ll ever see. If you missed this one in theaters, do yourself a favor and watch it because it’s one of the most original action movies out there.

Finally, if you’re ready for an adventure as old as time itself, you can dive into the entire “Lord of the Rings” trilogy on Max. It all starts with “The Fellowship of the Ring,” where Frodo Baggins, a humble hobbit, sets out with an unlikely group of heroes to destroy a powerful ring that could bring destruction to the world. Next up is “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers,” which raises the stakes as Frodo and his friends face darker enemies and bigger challenges on their journey. The epic story wraps up with “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,” where the fate of Middle-earth hangs on the final battle and Frodo’s mission to destroy the One Ring.

What superhero action movies can you watch on Max?

The other reason why Max is the best place for action movies? It’s the home of Warner Bros. and DC’s superhero movies. The first you have to check out is Christopher Nolan’s epic Batman trilogy, starting with “Batman Begins.” Christian Bale stars as Bruce Wayne, a billionaire who channels his grief into becoming Gotham’s caped crusader. Then comes “The Dark Knight,” a game-changer in superhero films featuring Heath Ledger’s unforgettable performance as the Joker. The trilogy wraps up with “The Dark Knight Rises,” where Batman faces his toughest challenge yet, battling the fearsome Bane to save Gotham one last time.

If you’re ready to trade Gotham’s gritty streets for the vibrant underwater world of Atlantis, Max has you covered with the “Aquaman” films. Start with “Aquaman,” directed by James Wan, where Jason Momoa stars as Arthur Curry, a half-human, half-Atlantean hero destined to unite two worlds. Packed with stunning underwater visuals, epic battles, and a whole lot of swagger from Momoa, this movie is a wild ride. Then dive into the sequel, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” where Arthur returns to face even bigger threats to his underwater kingdom while uncovering ancient secrets that could change everything.

Max is a treasure trove for superhero fans, especially with its extensive collection of DC films. Beyond the “Batman” and “Aquaman” series, you can dive into the “Superman” franchise, starting with the modern reboot “Man of Steel,” where Henry Cavill dons the iconic cape to explore Clark Kent’s origins and his journey to embrace his destiny as Earth’s protector. The adventure continues in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” which pits the Man of Steel against Gotham’s Dark Knight in an epic showdown.

You also don’t want to miss the ensemble action of the Justice League films. Start with “Justice League,” where DC’s iconic heroes unite to face a global threat. For a more in-depth experience, check out “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” offering a bigger story with a bunch more character development.

And for a mix of action and humor, the Shazam! series is a must-watch. “Shazam!,” introduces a teenage boy who can transform into an adult superhero, bringing a lighthearted twist to the genre. The fun continues in “Shazam! Fury of the Gods,” where our hero faces new challenges and bigger (and funnier) enemies.
