Looking for rom-com TV shows? Here’s the streamer you need…
From new hits to old favorites, Netflix is the ultimate hub for romantic comedy TV shows.
Rom-com TV shows are making a comeback, and I am so here for it. Maybe it’s a reflection of where our culture is at that we’re all craving watching two people fall in love, complete with the meet-cute, witty banter, and inevitable heartbreak over some easily avoidable misunderstanding. Regardless, I want to give you my pick for the best streaming service to scratch your romantic comedy TV series itch… whether you saw it coming or not, it’s Netflix. Here’s why it’s the ultimate go-to for rom-com lovers.
Everything you need to know about the best streamer for rom-com TV shows:
What new rom-com TV shows can you watch on Netflix?

One of the big reasons Netflix is my top choice for rom-com TV shows is because it’s coming out with new ones regularly, as well as new seasons of beloved shows. First, there’s “Nobody Wants This.” This was one of my favorite shows of 2024. It follows Joanne (played by Kristen Bell), a bold, opinionated podcaster exploring the difficulties of modern relationships alongside her sister. But when her world collides with Noah (Adam Brody), a charming but unconventional rabbi, it sets the stage for a romance that forces them to confront the interplay between love and religion. Besides being unique in its premise, the chemistry between Bell and Brody is palpable and really intense. And it was nice to see two adults mostly adulting and treating each other with respect.
The other popular rom-com show on Netflix that just dropped a new season in September is “Emily in Paris.” In season four of the hit show, Emily heads to Rome to help open a new branch of her agency. She’s juggling a big career move while also falling for Marcello, a charming Italian exec. Between new adventures, tricky work challenges, and her usual fabulous outfits, Emily’s life is more exciting - and complicated - than ever. And now viewers have two gorgeous cities to drool over – Paris and Rome.
For fans of young love with a little more drama than comedy, there’s the limited series “One Day.” Based on the novel by David Nicholls of the same name, the story follows Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew over 20 years, checking in on their lives every year on the same day - July 15th. Through highs, lows, love, and friendship, the series shows how their relationship changes and grows with time.
What classic romantic comedy TV series does Netflix offer?

Netflix doesn’t just have newer shows, it offers classic rom-com shows, too. First, there’s the classic sitcom, “How I Met Your Mother.” The series follows Ted Mosby as he tells his kids the story of how he met their mother. Set in New York City, the show spans nearly a decade, chronicling Ted’s romantic misadventures and life with his close group of friends - Marshall, his college best friend, Lily, Marshall’s loving but opinionated wife, Barney, the outrageous and suit-obsessed bachelor, and Robin, the ambitious journalist Ted falls for.
For a more female perspective on love in a big city, there’s “Sex and the City.” The comedy-drama follows the lives of four best friends navigating love, careers, and friendship in New York City. At the center is Carrie Bradshaw, an introspective columnist writing about modern relationships, alongside her fiercely independent friends: Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte. Through glamorous parties, romantic misadventures, and conversations over cocktails, the series dives into the complexities of dating and self-discovery in the big city.
For a first-love high school experience, there’s Mindy Kaling’s fantastic show “Never Have I Ever” that ran four seasons. This coming-of-age rom-com follows Devi Vishwakumar, an ambitious and quick-witted Indian-American teenager navigating the chaos of high school, grief, love, and her cultural identity. Alongside her two loyal best friends, Eleanor and Fabiola, Devi bounces between her two crushes Ben and Paxton, and a who-will-she-end-up-with storyline that lasts four seasons, with a very satisfying conclusion.
For those looking for a Judd Apatow-influenced rom-com TV series, there’s “Love.” The show tells the story of Mickey, a rebellious radio producer, and Gus, a good-natured film tutor, as they stumble through the awkward, messy, and funny aspects of a modern relationship in Los Angeles. “Love” captures the unfiltered reality of dating, where personal baggage and bad habits become part of what you love about the other person.
Finally, there’s another Mindy Kaling show that makes the list – “The Mindy Project.” This hilarious rom-com series centers on Dr. Mindy Lahiri, a brilliant but quirky OB/GYN navigating life and love in New York City. Between juggling her demanding career and her often chaotic dating life, Mindy’s journey is full of laugh-out-loud moments, heartfelt lessons, and plenty of awkward romantic situations.

Other streamers with rom-com TV shows

Now, there are a few streamers that deserve honorable mention. First, Hulu has some good rom-com TV shows in the form of “High Fidelity” – a remake of the movie. There’s also “Ramy,” which follows Ramy Hassan, a first-generation Egyptian-American who struggles to reconcile his Muslim faith with the madness of modern life. Hulu also has the classic rom-com TV series “New Girl,” which my wife and I just re-watched – so good! And there’s the anti-rom-com, “You’re the Worst.” The show centers on Jimmy, a narcissistic writer, and Gretchen, a self-destructive PR executive, who begins an unconventional and chaotic relationship.
Prime Video gets a nod for its unique take on love and spies with “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” Donald Glover and Maya Erskine star as John and Jane Smith, two strangers turned spies who are paired in an arranged marriage as cover for their missions. It also carries “Modern Love” – a collection of unique stories about the joys and tribulations of love, each inspired by true events.
