When will ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ be available to stream?
The film has released a new trailer, but when will you be able to watch the whole thing at home?
The time has nearly arrived for a return to Pandora. “Avatar: Fire and Ash” will be released on Dec. 19, 2025, bringing an end to a cycle of delays that has held the film back for years. At San Diego Comic Con 2025, Disney and director James Cameron unveiled the trailer for the third film in the otherworldly saga that includes two of the three highest-grossing films of all time. With the movie finally settled in a theatrical slot, we’ll tell you when we think you’ll be able to watch it at home.
Key Details:
- Next hit in the saga?: Each previous “Avatar” film has been a box-office success.
- Dual debut: Disney+ will be the streaming home of “Fire and Ash,” but it could be sent to Hulu as well.
- Not a brief wait: If past releases are any indication, there’s no reason to think “Avatar: Fire and Ash will stream quickly.

“Avatar: Fire and Ash” will reacquaint viewers with the family of Jake Sully and Neytiri, who have settled in with the Metkayina clan. Still grieving the loss of Neteyam, the group encounters a new Na’vi tribe called the Ash people. Their leader, Varang, has allied with Quaritch, bringing the conflict on Pandora to new and devastating heights.
The “Avatar” franchise has been popular with critics and audiences so far, and each film in the series has grossed at least $2 billion at the box office. The original film, which was released in 2009, has grossed $2.9 billion at the global box office, the most in the history of film. Its sequel, “Avatar: The Way of Water,” came out 13 years later in 2022, and has thus far grossed $2.3, third all-time, $497 million behind “Avengers: Endgame” for second place.
While the Avatar films have not had nearly the cultural impact that the Avengers movies have, there is no doubt that audiences around the world are still fascinated by this alien story that still hits close to home. Will “Fire and Ash” be the next success in what is now set to be a five-film franchise?

When will ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ stream?
It’s easy to say where “Avatar: Fire and Ash” will stream once it’s no longer a theatrical exclusive. The movie is distributed by 20th Century Studios, a Disney subsidiary, and thus will be sent to Disney+ once it’s available to stream. It seems likely that the movie will also be released on Hulu, at least for a limited time.
How long it will take is a different question, but fans of the franchise shouldn’t hold out hope that the movie will be available to stream on an abbreviated timeline. “Avatar: The Way of Water” didn’t stream on Disney+ until June 2023, almost six full months after coming out in theaters in December 2022.
I can’t see any reason for Disney to shorten that timeline as of now, though, of course, the movie’s box office will have a lot to say in the matter. For now, I’ll predict that “Avatar: Fire and Ash” won’t stream on Disney+ until June 2026, in keeping with the release windowing of the previous film.
