The best spy-shows to watch now that ‘Lioness’ Season 2 has ended

The best spy-shows to watch now that ‘Lioness’ Season 2 has ended

There are plenty of titles that have lots in common with Taylor Sheridan-penned series, and we’ll break down the best of them below.

As fans of the series are all too aware of, “Lioness” has wrapped its second season. The series, which stars Zoe Saldaña, Morgan Freeman, and Nicole Kidman follows a fearless team of CIA operatives as they try to unravel terrorist plots against the United States before they can be carried out, is now offering all episodes from both of its first two seasons on Paramount+.

If you’re bummed out about the end of the series, I’ve got a list of four other titles that you can stream to scratch the “Lioness” itch before new episodes come back! Check out the list below, and find out how to stream them!

What to watch after finishing Season 2 of ‘Lioness’

Homeland

Homeland features a strong female lead who wants to stop terror plots at any cost

Homeland” follows the story of CIA officer Carrie Mathison, whose diagnosis with bipolar disorder and occasional refusal to treat it makes her as unpredictable as she is brilliant. She’s willing to risk her career when she thinks she’s right, but she has met the challenge of a lifetime in former Marine Corps sniper Nicholas Brody. Brody was captured years earlier, but after being freed Carrie cannot escape doubts about his loyalty to the United States. Like “Lioness,” “Homeland” is set against the backdrop of U.S. operations against terrorism, and centers on a strong female lead character.

If you’ve got a Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscription that you used to watch “Lioness,” you can also stream “Homeland” with it. Otherwise, the show is available to stream in full on Hulu, with plans starting at $10 per month.

SEAL Team

SEAL Team features an elite force of terror-fighters, just like Lioness

Paramount+’s “SEAL Team” has more of an ensemble cast, but still features some strong female presences in characters like CIA liason Amanda Ellis, and Lieutenant Lisa Davis. The series follows an elite team of Navy SEALS on missions around the globe as they seek to foil plots against the United States, making the plot of the show very familiar for fans of “Lioness.”

You can stream all seven seasons of “SEAL Team” from start to finish on Paramount+, on either tier of the streamer. Plans start at $8 per month for an ad-supported Paramount+ plan.

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan

Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan is a good alternative to Lioness thanks to the similar themes of the two shows

The globe-trotting, terror-fighting operative theme is strongly present once again in “Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan,” which features season-long arcs from characters played by noted actresses like Abbie Cornish and Noomi Rapace. It centers on CIA analyst Jack Ryan, who is jettisoned from his risk-free desk job into some of the most dangerous assignments the agency has to offer.

This series is a Prime Video original, which means that service is the only place to stream its four seasons. You can watch free for 30 days if you opt for a free trial of Amazon Prime, after which the streamer starts at $9 per month.

Yellowstone

Yellowstone is another title written and co-created by Taylor Sheridan.

Yellowstone” is the show that vaulted Taylor Sheridan to superstardom, and is airing new episodes even now. Beth Dutton is one of the strongest female characters on TV at the moment, and her machinations to advance the interests of the Dutton family make for incredibly compelling TV. This contemporary Western drama centers on the Dutton clan and their ambitions to hold power over their corner of Montana.

New episodes of “Yellowstone” are airing on Paramount Network, but the only place you can stream older episodes of the show on-demand is with a subscription to Peacock starting at $8 per month.
