Xumo Stream Box Now Available for Xfinity Internet Customers
New Xfinity Internet subscribers get their first Xumo Stream Box free from Xfinity after a one-time activation fee.
The Xumo Stream Box is making its way to more customers this week. The streaming device receives both live TV and video through broadband, and now users of Xfinity Internet can grab their first Xumo Stream Box device and pay $0 per month on their bill for it.
- Xfinity Internet customers can now get the Xumo Stream Box for the first time.
- Highlights of the device include a universal voice search, the “currently playing” feature, and much more.
- The Xumo Stream Box first rolled out for Spectrum TV customers, then Mediacom users before becoming available to Xfinity Internet users.
How Do Xfinity Internet Customers Get the Xumo Stream Box?
New Xfinity Internet customers will be given the choice to snag a Xumo Stream Box when they sign up for their service. The first device will cost you a $15 one-time activation fee on your bill, but you won’t have to pay a monthly fee for it after that. Additional Xumo Stream Boxes will cost $5 per month extra.
Xfinity Internet users won’t need the Xumo Stream Box to access their broadband service, but it will make watching TV a whole lot easier. The Xumo Stream Box allows users to watch all their favorite streaming services, including Netflix, Disney+, Max, Peacock and many more. It also includes a universal voice search, so users can speak the name of a title into their remote, and the Xumo Stream Box will search across various streaming platforms to see where it’s playing.
“Finding something to watch across streaming apps can be frustrating and time consuming for customers,” said John Dixon, Senior Vice President, Entertainment. “Xumo Stream Box helps simplify streaming so customers can spend less time searching and more time watching with key features like live TV at start-up, leading voice search, an integrated guide, and all the most popular apps preloaded and ready to watch.”
Who Else Can Get the Xumo Stream Box?
Xumo’s Stream Box is part of the overall Xumo joint venture between Comcast and Charter Communications. Users of both Xfinity TV and Spectrum TV can watch their cable plans through the Xumo Stream Box, which includes a “currently playing” tile that shows what’s airing on the last Xfinity Stream channel the customer watched. The Xumo Stream Box has replaced the ubiquitous cable box for new Spectrum TV users.
The box is available to customers of both companies, as well as broadband customers of Mediacom. Mediacom secured Xumo Stream Boxes for its broadband customers, but interestingly the company will not offer its own cable plans through the Xumo Stream Box, essentially making it a streaming player only for Mediacom users.
Having a device that allows users to watch their live TV plans alongside their favorite subscription streaming apps is an excellent recognition of where Xfinity and Spectrum customers are. The majority of those with pay-TV subscriptions still have streaming services like Hulu alongside, and giving them a device for watching both live and on-demand video will help both companies as they look to a future with fewer and fewer cable subscribers.
