How long will ‘28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ take to stream?

How long will ‘28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ take to stream?

The previous installment in the ‘28 Days Later’ franchise had an unexpectedly short theatrical window. Will ‘The Bone Temple’ repeat that performance?

You’ve got to give it to the “28 Days Later” franchise. After more than 20 years, it still churns out high-quality sequels that keep fans glued to their seats in horror. The latest movie in the series is “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,” which is being released theatrically on Friday, January 16. How long will it take the movie to arrive on a subscription streaming service? We’ll try to answer that below.

Key Details:

  • Another hit: “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” has a 94% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
  • So-Netflix: The movie is distributed by Sony in the United States, which means it will stream on Netflix first.
  • Shifting window?: Recent evidence suggests Sony may be shortening its theatrical windows.

“28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” continues the epic story that first originated in “28 Years Later.” Dr. Kelson makes a foundational discovery that could change the course of the entire world, while Spike’s interlude with Jimmy Crystal transforms into a nightmare that he cannot wake from. The Bone Temple is a place where the inhumanity of survivors can be even more savage than even the infected are.

Based on 179 reviews as of the time of this writing, “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” has scored a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the majority of preview audiences agree that the movie is one of the best entries in an already formidable franchise.

When will ‘28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ premiere on Netflix?

Sony Pictures Releasing is handling the distribution duties for “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,” which means we know the movie will stream on Netflix when it is allowed to move to an on-demand platform. In fact, Netflix recently expanded its Pay-1 deal with Sony to include all global territories in which the streamer is available.

Now, we get to the really tricky question. Sony used to be pretty dependable in its theatrical release windows; movies rarely got a window of less than 120 days before shifting to Netflix. “Karate Kid: Legends,” which came out in 2025, used this theatrical window as well, but other recent releases like “Paddington in Peru” and “28 Years Later” had windows closer to 90 days.

In the end, I’ll stick with the window Sony used for the previous film in this franchise to predict the Netflix arrival date of “28 Years Later: Bone Temple.” If the two films abide by the same calendar, “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” will stream on Netflix starting on Friday, April 17, 91 days from its original release.

Recently, Netflix has expanded beyond standard movies and TV titles with the addition of video podcasts, and is also exploring a digital store that would offer third-party streamers within the app.

Netflix offers three plans – stream on 2 devices in HD with the “Standard with Ads” ($8.99) plan, on 2 devices in HD with the “Standard” ($19.99) plan, and 4 devices in up to 4K on the “Premium” ($26.99) plan.
