New Teaser Released for “Dune: Prophecy”

HBO has released its second teaser for its upcoming original drama series “Dune: Prophecy,” starring Emily Watson and Olivia Williams.

Part of the “Dune“-iverse and based on Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s “Sisterhood of Dune,” “Dune: Prophecy” is set 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides and follows Harkonnen sisters Valya (Watson) and Tula (Williams) “as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit.”

The prequel series will also star Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jihae, Tabu, Charithra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, and Yerin Ha, among others. Alison Schapker serves as showrunner and executive producer.

“Dune: Prophecy” is slated to premiere on Max this November with an official date to be announced.


Peacock Releases “Bel-Air” Season 3 Trailer

Time to head home to “Bel-Air.” Peacock has released the Season 3 trailer for its modern-day “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” series, which will premiere on Thursday, Aug. 15.

Set in modern-day Los Angeles and inspired by Morgan Cooper’s viral trailer, “Bel-Air” flip-turns the culture-defining 1990s sitcom upside down as a drama series following Will (played by Jabari Banks) from his complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansion of Bel-Air.

In the third season, school’s out for the summer, according to the official description, and Will makes an exciting pivot to achieve his dreams, finding a partner in Carlton, who’s hoping to leave some of his own past behind him. Meanwhile, home and work pressure pose problems for Viv and Phil, Hilary’s romantic life hits some hurdles, Ashley’s views on romance shift as she comes of age, and Geoffrey’s London past makes it stateside.

The series also stars Adrian Holmes (Phillip Banks), Cassandra Freeman (Vivian Banks), Olly Sholotan (Carlton Banks), Coco Jones (Hilary Banks), Akira Akbar (Ashley Banks), Jimmy Akingbola (Geoffrey), Jordan L. Jones (Jazz), and Simone Joy Jones (Lisa). This season will also feature a guest appearance from Joseph Marcell, who played Geoffrey in the original series.

“Bel-Air” Season 3 will debut exclusively on Peacock on Aug. 15 with three new episodes available at launch.


“Halo” Canceled By Paramount+

Mission aborted for Paramount+’s live-action “Halo” series. The streamer has announced it will not be continuing with a third season of its big-budget series based on the hit video game franchise.

Produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television, “Halo” starred Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief John-117, a genetically enhanced super soldier part of an elite group known as the Spartans who are fighting a bloody war in the 26th century with the Covenant, a group of various alien races united under a shared religious fanaticism.

The cast also included Natascha McElhone, Jen Taylor, Bokeem Woodbine, Shabana Azmi, Natasha Culzac, Olive Gray, Yerin Ha, Bentley Kalu, Kate Kennedy, Charlie Murphy, and Danny Sapani.

The series, which had a nearly decade-long development cycle after it was initially planned as a film adaptation, premiered in 2022 and concluded its second (and last) season this past March.


“Frasier” Season 2 Announces Premiere Date

The doctor is back in the building. Paramount+ has announced the premiere date for Season 2 of its “Frasier” revival, starring Kelsey Grammer, with the sophomore season of the comedy debuting on the platform on Thursday, Sept. 19.

The series follows Dr. Frasier Crane in the next chapter of his life as he returns to Boston for new challenges and relationships… and to maybe fulfill an old dream or two. Also starring are Jack Cutmore-Scot, Nicholas Lyndhurst, Toks Olagundoye, Jess Salgueiro, and Anders Keith. The new season will also see Crane return to his radio roots at KACL Seattle for an episode that will feature original guest stars Dan Butler as Bob “Bulldog” Briscoe, Edward Hibbert as Gil Chesterton, and Harriet Sansom Harris as Bebe Glazer. Other previously announced guest stars include the return of Peri Gilpin, as well as Rachel Bloom, Yvette Nicole Brown, Greer Grammer, Patricia Heaton, and Amy Sedaris.

“Frasier” films in front of a live studio audience. The series was honored with three Primetime Emmy Award nominations this week, including Outstanding Cinematography For A Multi-Camera Series (Half-Hour), Outstanding Production Design For A Narrative Program (Half-Hour), and Outstanding Picture Editing For A Multi-Camera Comedy Series. The original “Frasier” continues to hold the record for most Emmy wins for a comedy series with 37 wins and 107 nominations.

Season 2 of “Frasier” will premiere exclusively on Paramount+ on Sept. 19 with two new episodes, followed by a new episode every Thursday.


Max Announces “City of God: The Fight Rages On” Premiere Date

Max has announced the premiere date of the upcoming HBO Original series “City of God: The Fight Rages On,” which will premiere on HBO Latino in the United States and stream globally on Max.

The new series is a continuation of the literary work of Paulo Lins, whose 1997 novel “City of God” was adapted into the critically acclaimed Brazilian crime epic five years later. Taking place two decades after the events of the film, the six-episode series unfolds in the early 2000s “when the release of a young drug dealer from prison puts Cidade de Deus back into dispute. Residents find themselves trapped between drug traffickers, militias, and public authorities, but the need to escape this cycle makes the community unite to face the oppressor.”

"City of God: The Fight Rages On," a follow-up series to the critically acclaimed 2002 film "City of God," will premiere this August on Max.

The new and returning cast members will include Alexandre Rodrigues, Roberta Rodrigues, Thiago Martins, Sabrina Rosa, Kiko Marques, Edson Oliveira, Andréia Horta, Marcos Palmeira, Eli Ferreira, Luellem de Castro, Jefferson Brasil, Otávio Linhares, Rafael Lozano, Leandro Daniel, Luiz Bertazzo, and more.

“City of God: The Fight Rages On” will premiere on Max on Sunday, Aug. 25 with a new episode released weekly through Sept. 29.


“Rosemary’s Baby” Prequel Film “Apartment 7A” Gets First Look

Get ready for move-in day at “Apartment 7A.” Paramount+ has released the first-look images for the upcoming psychological thriller film, which will serve as a prequel to the classic horror film “Rosemary's Baby” and explore what happened in the infamous Bramford building before Rosemary became a resident.

Set in 1965 New York City, “Apartment 7A” follows ambitious young dancer Terry Gionoffrio (Julia Garner), whose dreams of fortune and fame are put on hold after sustaining a devastating injury. Terry is welcomed into the luxurious Bramford by a wealthy older couple (Dianne Wiest and Kevin McNally), and when a fellow resident and influential Broadway producer (Jim Sturgess) offers her another chance at fame, her dreams appear to be finally coming true. But “after an evening she can’t fully remember, disturbing circumstances soon have her second-guessing the sacrifices she’s willing to make for her career as she realizes that something evil is living not only in Apartment 7A but in the Bramford itself.”

CBS Sports Announces New Deals for EFL and Serie A

CBS Sports has announced two new deals to further expand its global soccer coverage.

First, the network has announced an exclusive, multi-year, multi-platform rights agreement with the English Football League (EFL) to offer the widest distribution of EFL matches ever in the U.S. CBS Sports will air at least 250 EFL matches each season beginning this August through the end of 2027-28, including Championship, League One, League Two, Carabao Cup and Bristol Street Motors Trophy events.

The exact terms of CBS Sports' live EFL coverage include:

  • a minimum of 155 Championship matches
  • a minimum of 38 League One and League Two matches
  • all 15 playoff matches
  • a minimum of 30 Carabao Cup matches
  • three Bristol Street Motors Trophy matches

Matches will air on Paramount+ with select matches airing on CBS Sports Network and Paramount’s CBS Sports Golazo Network FAST channel.

CBS Sports and English Football League (EFL) have signed a multi-year, multi-platform rights agreement to bring League matches to Paramount+

Additionally, CBS Sports and Lega Serie A have announced a new multi-platform, two-year agreement that will keep CBS Sports as the exclusive U.S. English-language rights holder for Serie A Championship, Coppa Italia, and Supercoppa Italiana matches. The partnership began during the 2021-22 season when CBS Sports first aired Serie A matches, and the new two-year deal will continue and expand the distribution plans as Paramount+ will remain home to more than 400 club matches live each season, making it the widest distribution in the U.S. of Serie A matches.

The exact agreement guarantees:

  • all 380 Serie A matches,
  • a minimum of 25 Coppa Italia matches
  • all Supercoppa Italiana matches

In addition to airing live matches, CBS Sports Golazo Network will provide analysis and commentary of both EFL and Serie A competition throughout its live studio programming and is available on connected TV and mobile devices through Paramount+, Pluto TV, the Roku Channel, Freevee, Plex, and more.


Peacock Releases “The Killer” Reimagining Trailer

A new contract has been opened. Peacock has released the first trailer for its English-language reimagining of John Woo’s 1989 classic “The Killer.”

Woo is back to direct the remake of the Hong Kong action film, which starred Chow Yun-fat as Ah Jong, a professional assassin for the Triads on his way to retirement who accidentally damages the eyes of singer Jennie (Sally Yeh) during a shootout and sets out to perform one last hit for her treatment.

In the new version, which was written by Oscar winner Brian Helgeland (“L.A. Confidential,” “Mystic River”), the film follows Zee (played by Nathalie Emmanuel), a mysterious assassin known—and feared—in the Parisian underworld as the “Queen of the Dead.” According to the official description, Zee sees her alliances disintegrate after she refuses to kill a young blind woman while on an assignment from her shadowy mentor and handle and soon attracts the attention of a savvy police investigator, plunging her into a sinister criminal conspiracy that will set her on a collision course with her own past.

“The Killer” stars Nathalie Emmanuel, Omar Sy, Sam Worthington, Diana Silvers, Saïd Taghmaoui, Hugo Diego Garcia, Aurélia Agel, Grégory Montel, and more.

“The Killer” will premiere exclusively on Peacock on Friday, Aug. 23.
