Where do A24 movies go to stream after leaving theaters?
A24 makes highly unique, often chilling movies that are best enjoyed on streaming. But where are its movies found on-demand?
A24 has been around since 2012, but thanks to movies like “Hereditary,” “Midsommar,” and “Civil War,” the studio has had a surge in popularity in recent years. More viewers than ever are watching A24 movies, and that means more viewers than ever are looking to see the movies on streaming as well.
Until recently, A24 didn’t have a standard Pay 1 streaming deal with any one service. Where can you find the studio’s movies now? We’ve got that data for you right here.
Where can you stream A24 movies when they leave theaters?
Where do A24 movies stream first?
A24 movies stream first on HBO Max once they’ve been released from theaters, thanks to an exclusive deal with the streamer agreed to in December 2023. But unlike other movies on this service that come from Warner Bros. Pictures, A24 movies don’t typically arrive on the streamer in a 45 to 100-day window.
Most of the time, A24 movies take at least 120 days to reach HBO Max — even titles that don’t garner a big box office or compile glowing reviews from critics. This would seem to indicate that the deal between Warner Bros. Discovery and A24 for streaming distribution gives the studio some control over its release windows, but there’s no official data to confirm that, since such agreements are usually kept confidential.
Does A24 have a standard Pay 2 partner?
No, there is no one streaming service that gets A24 movies following a period of exclusivity on HBO Max. A24 must stream movies exclusively on WBD streaming platforms first, and the Pay-1 window usually lasts around 18 months. After that, the studio can probably license those movies elsewhere, but there is no specific Pay-2 partner for A24.
Does HBO Max have A24’s entire library?
Yes, HBO Max got the rights to stream A24’s entire theatrical library in the Pay-1 deal between the two. You can find all of those films on HBO Max with a subscription to any of the streamer’s plans.
