Ad-supported streaming plans often come to Roku later than ad-free versions do because of the additional negotiating required.
The Roku Channel has long been an excellent platform for aggregating your streaming experience. The service not only offers hundreds of free ad-supported TV (FAST) channels, but its digital store allows customers to shop for paid, on-demand streaming subscriptions and keep them all on the same monthly bill. Users of The Roku Channel now have a new option available on the service: the ad-supported plan of AMC+.

AMC+ allows viewers to stream a beloved lineup of AMC titles like new episodes of “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” the latest season of “Interview with the Vampire” and much more. It also comes with access to Shudder, the must-have streaming service for horror enthusiasts; Sundance Now, home to critically acclaimed dramas, international thrillers, and bone-chilling true crime; and IFC Films Unlimited, the excellent repository of independent films and award-winning documentaries.
Customers were already able to sign up for ad-free AMC+ on The Roku Channel, but this is the first time the ad-supported plan has been available through that platform. Disney+ launched its ad-supported plan on The Roku Channel several months after it became available for purchase directly. The late arrival of these ad-supported plans is likely because Roku demands a percentage of ad revenues from any ad-supported subscription sold through The Roku Channel, and the two sides have to work out an equitable deal to make that happen.
Ad-supported AMC+ costs $4.99 per month, while the ad-free version of the streamer costs $8.99.
There are multiple ways to get a subscription to AMC+ for free. The streamer offers a free trial for customers who subscribe directly or through a platform like The Roku Channel, offering new subscribers seven days to test out its content library.
Earlier this year, AMC+ announced a distribution deal with the live TV streaming service Philo. The linear AMC channel had previously been available in Philo plans, but starting in June Philo customers got free access to AMC+’s ad-supported tier as part of their subscriptions.
Spectrum TV Select customers also now get AMC+ free with their cable plan, after a carriage agreement struck between AMC and Charter Communications earlier this month. Spectrum TV customers have a long and growing list of streamers they get free with their subscriptions, including AMC+, Disney+, Paramount+, Max, and ViX.
