Spectrum TV Customers Get Free AMC+ in New Carriage Deal
Viewers will be able to stream titles like ‘Interview with the Vampire’ and ‘The Walking Dead’ on-demand at no extra cost with the addition.
Charter Communications is continuing to show its commitment to helping customers avoid paying for the same content twice. The cable distributor announced on Wednesday that it had come to an early renewal of its carriage agreement with AMC Networks, and that as part of the deal some customers would get free access to the AMC+ on-demand streaming service.
Key Details:
- Spectrum TV Select customers can now get ad-supported AMC+ free with their subscription.
- Charter has struck similar deals granting viewers access to Disney+, Paramount+ and ViX.
- AMC+ is also available at no extra charge with a Philo subscription.
Spectrum TV customers will now be able to watch titles like “Better Call Saul,” “The Walking Dead” and all of its attendant spin-offs, “Interview with the Vampire” and much more, on-demand and at their leisure. The deal allows Spectrum TV Select subscribers to sign up for free ad-supported AMC+ accounts, which normally cost $4.99 per month.
“This agreement with AMC Networks supports our goal of enhancing the value and variety of premium entertainment content available to our customers,” Charter EVP of programming acquisition Tom Montemagno said. “The addition of AMC+ at no extra cost for our TV Select customers builds on our new distribution framework, which this year alone has included the addition of Paramount+ Essential, ViX Premium with Ads, Disney+, and ESPN+. We appreciate AMC Networks’ partnership in reaching a distribution agreement that benefits our mutual customers and helps transform the video industry.”
As referenced, Spectrum has gone to great lengths to ensure its customers get access to on-demand streamers when it makes new carriage deals. It started last September when Charter refused to restore Disney-owned linear channels to its airwaves without a deal that gave Spectrum TV Select subscribers free ad-supported Disney+ accounts. ESPN+ was given to Spectrum TV Select Signature subscribers as well, and ViX and Paramount+ access soon followed.
“This early, multi-year agreement between Charter and AMC Networks ensures Spectrum TV customers will continue to have access to our high-quality original programming however they prefer to watch it, including through the ad-supported version of AMC+,” AMC’s chief commercial officer Kim Kelleher said. “Charter has been a long-time partner, and this agreement reflects our strong and mutually beneficial relationship and commitment to viewers.”
AMC has also been making similar deals with other distributors. In late May, the company struck a new deal with the live TV streaming service Philo, which allowed that service’s customers to sign up for AMC+ accounts at no extra cost much like Spectrum subscribers can now do.
