Autoplay works a little differently on live TV streaming services than it does on platforms that are built on a foundation of on-demand programming. Although the live channel guide usually plays a preview of the channels you’re scrolling through as you browse, live streaming services don’t normally autoplay previews of on-demand content in the home screen automatically.

Watching titles you’ve recorded and other on-demand content can still include an autoplay feature, however, and DIRECTV is one of the finest live TV streamingservices there is. Can you turn off autoplay on DIRECTV?

DIRECTV’s paid subscription plans come with unlimited Cloud DVR, and if you’re recording a season’s worth of episodes with your plan, you can use autoplay to binge them at your leisure. Fortunately, DIRECTV does allow you to turn this setting off if you prefer to go one episode at a time.

MyFree DIRECTV also allows you to adjust your autoplay settings, which is uncommon among free streaming services at times.

How to disable autoplay on DIRECTV

On the DIRECTV app, open up the Settings menu. Scroll to Preferences, and find Autoplay Next Episode. Turn the setting on or off at your discretion from here. You can also adjust Your TV carousel settings from this Preferences screen, but there is no way to stop the automatic playback of a channel when opening the DIRECTV app in a small window at this time.

With MyFree DIRECTV, log in to the streamer’s website and locate the profile icon with your first initial in the top-right corner of the window. From here, you can stop the automatic playback of live TV on launch, mute audio on launch, and stop the autoplay of the next episode.

MyFree DIRECTV allows you to turn off autoplay, unlike some other free streamers.

Will DIRECTV update its autoplay settings?

Customers on DIRECTV forum pages have made complaints about the lack of customization options for autoplay on the DIRECTV app, and a DIRECTV Help commenter stated at one point that the suggestion had been passed along to the teams who work on the app’s user interface.
