DIRECTV unites streaming options under one name and price structure
The satellite and streaming company is looking to simplify how you stream your favorite shows, movies, and games.
When streaming began to revolutionize the at-home entertainment industry, one of its greatest selling points was its simplicity. However, over the years, as companies pivoted and services evolved, streaming became just as complicated (and costly) as the thing it was designed to replace. To address some of that confusion, today, DIRECTV has announced a massive rebranding and reorganization that hopefully makes it easier for cord-cutters to get all of the programming they want.

On Sunday, the satellite and streaming provider announced that it would be moving both of its streaming services — the erstwhile DIRECTV STREAM and DIRECTV via internet — under a single name, DIRECTV Streaming. While customers can still decide if they want to stream with a DIRECTV Gemini device or their own smart or connected TV, everything else will be standard across streaming plans.
Gone is the two-year contract that was formerly required for DIRECTV via Internet customers. Also gone are price differences amongst packages across any of the company’s options. Whether a subscriber is signed up for DIRECTV service via satellite or streaming — with or without a device — the price will be determined by the channel package, not how you watch. The company’s Signature Packages start at $85 per month and increase based on the breadth and depth of channels you want in your plan.
What are the prices for DIRECTV’s Signature Packages?
- Entertainment: $85 per month
- Choice: $90 per month
- Ultimate: $120 per month
- Premier: $165 per month
In addition, DIRECTV Streaming customers can sign up for smaller channel packages known as Genre Packs. The MySports, MyNews, MyEntertainment, and MiEspañol plans start at $35 per month and range up to $70 while providing more genre-specific channel offerings. From there, you can add on Mini-Packs to get more movies, sports, and even the regional sports networks in your market to make sure that you can watch all of your favorite team’s games.
Also, some of the Genre Packs include free premium streaming services like Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, and Max at no additional cost.
What are the prices for DIRECTV’s Genre Packs?
- MyEntertainment: $35 per month (comes with ad-supported Disney+, Hulu, Max)
- MiEspañol: $35 per month
- MyNews: $40 per month
- MySports: $70 per month (comes with ESPN+)
Finally, all customers are able to augment their specific channel lineup with the free channels from MyFree DIRECTV. With over 100 free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels available, you are able to customize the offerings to get the most out of all of DIRECTV’s streaming options.
While all of the Signature Packages and Genre Packs will cost the same across DIRECTV, there is a slight price difference depending on how you choose to stream. If you want to stream your favorite shows, movies, and sports through your smart TV or with a connected TV device, then all you have to do is download the DIRECTV app, and you are all set.
However, if you would like the extra power and functionality of streaming with a DIRECTV Gemini Air, renting the device will cost an extra $10 per month. If you go this route, you will have access to Universal Search and an integrated voice remote that allows you to search for the content you want not only within DIRECTV but also across your other existing streaming services like Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+, Max, Netflix, and many more.
All DIRECTV streaming customers, regardless of whether they are streaming via a Gemini Air device or not, have access to user profiles and Your TV, which provides recommendations across live, on-demand, and direct-to-consumer (DTC) streaming services based on what you watch. Customers can also access additional features, like Sports Mode, game time notifications, pre-game stats, live scores, and more.
