Have you picked your new favorite singer on this year’s season of “American Idol” yet? The new season started on Jan. 26, and viewers will soon have a brand-new way to watch live episodes: in the coming weeks, Disney+ will begin streaming “American Idol” live in the United States.

Key Details:

  • Let’s go live: Disney+ will soon begin streaming live episodes of “American Idol” each week.
  • Short wait: The streaming of “American Idol” on Disney+ will begin March 30 .
  • Follow the leader: Past episodes of “Dancing with the Stars” have also streamed live on Disney+.

As reported by What's on Disney+, “American Idol” episodes will begin streaming on Disney+ on March 30. Season 24 of “American Idol” first premiered in late January, so those waiting to watch on Disney+ may miss a few episodes in the interim.

“American Idol” is one of the longest-running and most popular reality shows on television. Judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Ritchie, and Carrie Underwood join host Ryan Seacrest in the series as they seek out America’s next singing superstar.

ABC has shown plenty of willingness to share its unscripted titles with Disney+. In fact, in 2022 “Dancing with the Stars” began a two-season experiment in which it tried streaming exclusively on Disney+, with no episodes shown on ABC. Disney eventually ended that experiment, however, and began allowing the show to air new episodes on both platforms live.

Disney+ will also begin airing the official “American Idol” podcast each week, allowing fans to dive deeper into the series and its contestants. Netflix has also begun offering a selection of video podcasts, and while this is Disney+’s first foray into that sphere, it may add other such shows quickly.

Viewers can currently find new episodes of “American Idol” on ABC at 8 p.m. ET on Monday evenings. Starting March 30, viewers will also be able to stream the show live with a Disney+ subscription.
