Netflix’s efforts to build up its video podcast selections are a transparent attempt to compete with YouTube, which is the only streaming platform that attracts more viewership monthly. Netflix has insisted in negotiations with podcast distributors that it be the exclusive home of any shows licensed to it in a deal.
Spotify was the first to sign an agreement with Netflix, and an agreement with iHeartMedia soon followed. The streamer has also had talks with SiriusXM on a licensing deal, though nothing official has been announced yet. Customers can watch video podcasts on Netflix with any of the streamer’s subscriptions, starting with the Standard with Ads plan for $8 per month.
