Apple TV adds 19 nostalgic movies
The rollout is Apple TV’s latest experiemnt in offering licesned movies.
Apple TV usually keeps its library strictly to original TV shows and movies. Its creative energies are poured into titles like “Severance” and “Ted Lasso,” and audiences have responded. But Apple has now returned to a tactic it has trotted out several times in the past, debuting a selection of 19 licensed movies from studios around Hollywood.
Key Details:
- Watch now: Apple TV has launched a selection of 19 licensed movies.
- Not global: The movies are available in the U.S., but other territories got a different selection.
- Repeat performance: Apple has launched limited selections of licensed movies in the past.
The films have launched in a tile row labeled “Great Movies Now Available on Apple TV.” The films include easy-watch comedies, award-winning dramas, and even a few titles that are appropriate for younger audiences, which should help smooth any grumpy feelings generated by the back-to-school season.
What are the films added to Apple TV’s library?
- 21 Jump Street
- Arrival
- The Aviator
- A Beautiful Mind
- The Bourne Identity
- Charlie's Angels

Apple has opted not to release 100% of these movies in all global territories. As reported by Mac Rumors, customers in the United Kingdom are only seeing six of these titles, instead of all 19. There’s no knowing how long the movies will last on Apple TV, as the company has not made the terms of its licensing deal to exhibit them public.
It’s not quite clear why Apple TV is launching these movies at this time, but the streamer has done likewise in the past. In 2024, Apple TV welcomed more than 50 movies from other studios, but this is the first time since then that it has launched a large selection of non-original titles.
The movies are available to stream at no extra cost with an Apple TV subscription, which costs $13 per month. Viewers can also stream [Major League Soccer] games, live MLB games on Friday evenings, and Formula 1 races on the service, as well as the full Apple TV library of originals.
Apple TV
Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+) is a subscription video streaming service for $14.99 per month, offering a growing slate of original series, films, documentaries, and specials. Unlike other platforms that combine licensed titles with originals, Apple TV is built entirely around exclusive programming, making it the home of critically acclaimed hits such as “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” “The Morning Show,” and “Silo.” Its lineup continues to expand with award-winning dramas, comedies, family-friendly shows, and blockbuster original films like “CODA,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
