Head back underground with ‘Silo’; Apple confirms two new seasons coming
The word-building sci-fi drama has been renewed for two further seasons, allowing it to finish the story of the Hugh Howey novels.
Emmy-winning showrunner Graham Yost has lent his Midas touch to “Silo,” the sci-fi drama available only on Apple TV+. The series has been a big winner for the streamer and is currently airing its second season. Apple is quite cagey about releasing viewership numbers or other statistics from its streamer, but one sure sign of a title’s success is an early order for more episodes. “Silo” has gotten just such a vote of confidence from Apple, which announced on Monday that it was renewing “Silo” for third and fourth seasons.
Key Details:
- “Silo” follows the story of the last 10,000 people on Earth.
- The series is based on a trilogy of novels by Hugh Howey.
- Season 4 will officially be the show’s last, and will conclude the story of the books.
It’s not yet known when “Silo” Seasons 3 and 4 will be released, but they are officially on the way. The show’s first season premiered in May 2023, and Season 2 began releasing episodes in November 2024. If that schedule is maintained, Season 3 will come out sometime in late 2025 or early 2026.
“Silo” centers on a community of 10,000 humans, the last left standing after a global cataclysm has decimated the Earth’s surface. Retreating underground, these last survivors have adopted a strict set of rules governing their lives. One engineer living in the silo seeks answers about a loved one’s murder and tumbles into a mystery that goes far deeper than she could have ever imagined, leading her to discover that if the lies don’t kill you, the truth will.
“I’ve loved every minute of bringing Juliette to the screen and am immensely proud of what we’ve all created with ‘Silo’ since the first episode,” said star and executive producer Rebecca Ferguson. “I have always felt passionately about telling the entire story contained within Hugh Howey’s books, so I couldn’t be happier that audiences around the world have enthusiastically embraced the show. I cannot wait to dive into these final two thought-provoking seasons that will beautifully conclude this dystopian tale.”
As referenced by Ferguson, the final two seasons of the show will wrap up the tale told in the Hugh Howey novel trilogy from which the show draws its inspiration. Howey’s story is spread across three books: “Wool,” “Shift,” and “Dust.”
Season 2 of “Silo” is streaming now on Apple TV+. New episodes will release every Friday until Jan. 17, when the Season 2 finale will air. Apple TV+ costs $10 per month, but it comes with a seven-day free trial for all new subscribers.
