Megan Thee Stallion, PSY to headline ‘KPOPPED’ for Apple TV+
The show will be a K-pop song battle series featuring two legendary artists.
East-meets-West fusion has been trendy in the food scene for years. Apple TV+ is trying to harness some of the same energy for its new series “KPOPPED,” which it announced on Wednesday, Feb. 5. The show will see two of the most famed rappers in the world collaborating on intense song battles, all with a K-pop twist that fans of the genre will love.
Key Details:
- “KPOPPED” will feature PSY and Megan Thee Stallion.
- The eight-episode series will feature Western artists reimagining their top hits with K-pop idols.
- Lionel Richie is serving as executive producer for the series.
“KPOPPED” will star Megan Thee Stallion and PSY, two of the world’s most loved artists in their respective genres. PSY is best known for his mega-hit “Gangnam Style,” and Megan Thee Stallion will perform her chart-topper “Savage” on the show.
The official premise for “KPOPPED” is: “In each episode, western icons reimagine one of their biggest hits, collaborating with top-tier K-pop idols to deliver spectacular battle performances, with a live Seoul-based audience picking the winner of the best new K-popped song.”
The series is intended to run for eight episodes. It doesn’t have a release date quite yet, but considering Apple TV+ only announced it this week, it will likely take some time to appear on the streamer. A 2025 release isn’t out of the question, but it appears unlikely as of now.
The show will be executive produced by Moira Ross, Lionel Richie, Miky Lee, Megan Thee Stallion and Greg Foster, alongside Harry H.K. Shin and Jake Hong, with producer Ki-woong Kim for CJ ENM Co., Ltd. It’s got some pretty sterling musical talent attached, so fans of shows like “The Voice” and similar titles will want to make sure they’re following the latest news on “KPOPPED.”
Apple TV+ doesn’t have a wide selection of shows similar to “KPOPPED” just yet, but fans can stream the original series “K-Pop Idols” on the service.
Apple TV
Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+) is a subscription video streaming service for $14.99 per month, offering a growing slate of original series, films, documentaries, and specials. Unlike other platforms that combine licensed titles with originals, Apple TV is built entirely around exclusive programming, making it the home of critically acclaimed hits such as “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” “The Morning Show,” and “Silo.” Its lineup continues to expand with award-winning dramas, comedies, family-friendly shows, and blockbuster original films like “CODA,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
