Apple TV+ removes ‘The Savant’ from release schedule

Apple TV+ removes ‘The Savant’ from release schedule

The series starring Jessica Chastain had been due to arrive on the streaming service on Friday, Sept. 26.

Apple TV+ has pulled the release of its new thriller series The Savant.

Jessica Chastain fans will have to wait a bit longer for the award-winning actress’ new Apple TV+ thriller series “The Savant.” The show was due to arrive on the streaming service this week, but without fanfare or a formal announcement, Apple has removed the series from the release schedule. There has been no specific timeline for the show’s eventual release or a rationale for why the premiere was pulled, leaving audiences who were anxiously awaiting its release guessing as to when they will be able to watch.

Key Details:

  • Unhappy weekend: “The Savant” was due to release on Friday, Sept. 26.
  • Too close for comfort?: The show’s plot could have had too much overlap with real-life events surrounding the death of Charlie Kirk.
  • Indefinite hold: Apple will only say the show is returning at a “future date.”

“The Savant” was originally on the release calendar for Friday, Sept. 26. But as first noticed by 9to5 Apple, the show is now on the shelf, and there has been no real confirmation when or if it will actually be released. Mentions of the Jessica Chastain series have been scrubbed from Apple’s social media accounts, and on the Apple TV app, the show says it is “Coming at a later date,” with no further details.

Since the announcement of the series, Apple has been pretty tight-lipped over the details of the series, which has led many to assume that the fictional events depicted in the show might hit a little too closely to recent real-life happenings. Based on teasers and trailers, the show is believed to feature at least one storyline in which Chastain’s character infiltrates online, radical right-wing groups.

Whether that is a minor plot point, or the focus of the entire series, Apple may well have pulled its release because it feels the series shares too many plot points with recent events. Right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk’s assassination has become a political flashpoint in the United States, and Apple could perceive that “The Savant” would simply inflame current tensions if it were released as originally scheduled.

In a statement to Deadline, Apple said simply, “After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone ‘The Savant.’ We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date.”

That “future date” is the only hint we have to go on that the series will ever be released, and it’s not much of a guarantee. “The Savant” may or may not be on hold for good, but at the very least, we know it will not be released on Friday.

Apple TV

Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+) is a subscription video streaming service for $14.99 per month, offering a growing slate of original series, films, documentaries, and specials. Unlike other platforms that combine licensed titles with originals, Apple TV is built entirely around exclusive programming, making it the home of critically acclaimed hits such as “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” “The Morning Show,” and “Silo.” Its lineup continues to expand with award-winning dramas, comedies, family-friendly shows, and blockbuster original films like “CODA,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

In October 2025, Apple TV agreed to a deal with Formula 1 to exclusively broadcast all Formula 1 races starting with the 2026 season.

Apple TV also features coverage of all regular-season matches for Major League Soccer (MLS) at no additional cost.

On August 28th, 2026, the price of Apple TV was increased from $12.99 per month to $14.99 per month, the second increase in as many years.

The service is available worldwide through the Apple TV app, which is built into Apple devices and supported on most smart TVs, streaming players like Roku and Fire TV, game consoles, and web browsers. Subscribers can watch on demand, download episodes and movies for offline viewing, and stream in 4K with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, where available. Apple TV also offers family sharing, allowing up to six people to use one subscription at no extra cost.

With a competitive monthly price and bundles available through Apple One — which combines Apple TV with Apple Music, Apple Arcade, iCloud storage, and more — the service continues to grow as a key part of Apple’s ecosystem. Apple TV delivers one of the strongest collections of exclusive content in the streaming space for viewers seeking prestige originals, cinematic storytelling, and seamless access across devices.
