The must-watch title on every major streamer this April

These April releases are the easiest way to decide what to watch next on every service.

With a background in film and branded content, he covers sports and entertainment with sharp insight and creativity. A longtime Oilers fan, he’s still holding out hope for a Stanley Cup run.
These are the movies and TV shows hitting streaming in April 2026 that I'm most excited about.

We’re officially a quarter of the way through the new year, and streamers are stepping up. This month, you’ve got a new “Star Wars” show, a few prestige drama follow-ups, some tech world chaos, college comedy meltdowns, and one very strange marriage story that I can’t wait to watch. If your watchlist is already getting crowded, here’s the one title on each major streamer I’m most excited about this April.

Top title on each streamer for the month of April 2026:

‘Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord’ | Series | Disney+

I’m not the biggest Star Wars guy, but I’ll admit “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord” has me curious. It drops Monday, April 6, on Disney+, and it picks up after “The Clone Wars,” following Maul as everything’s basically fallen apart and he’s trying to rebuild his power from the ground up. The whole angle here feels a little different from the usual Jedi vs. Sith stuff.

This is more about him building a criminal empire in the shadows while the Empire is rising, which is just a cool lane for Star Wars. It’s less about big battles and more about strategy, manipulation, and control. The apprentice angle adds something too, especially with him pulling a young Jedi into his orbit. It feels darker, a little more grounded, and honestly just more character-driven than what I usually expect from this universe. I’m in to see how far they push it.

April 6, 2026

After the Clone Wars, Maul plots to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire.

‘Half Man’ | Series | HBO Max

I’m absolutely showing up for whatever Richard Gadd does next after “Baby Reindeer,” so “Half Man” is already high on my list. His new series debuts Thursday, April 23, on HBO Max.

The story follows two men, Niall and Ruben, who aren’t related by blood but basically grow up as brothers after being brought together through loss. They’re inseparable as kids, but when Ruben shows up at Niall’s wedding 30 years later, something is clearly off. He’s acting strange, on edge, and then things get violent, which sends the story jumping back through their lives from the ’80s to now. It sounds like a deep dive into male friendship, trauma, and how those relationships can quietly fracture over time. If this hits anywhere near the emotional level of “Baby Reindeer,” I’ll be happy.

April 28, 2026

When Niall’s estranged ‘brother’ Ruben shows up at his wedding, it leads to an explosion of violence that catapults us back through their lives.

‘The Audacity’ | Series | AMC+

I love any show that gives you a peek behind the curtain of a high-pressure world, especially when it’s filled with big egos and even bigger stakes. That’s why “Succession” worked so well for me, and “The Audacity” feels like it’s playing in a similar sandbox, just with Silicon Valley instead of media empires. It premieres Sunday, April 12, on AMC+, and the setup is all about power, influence, and the people building the future, whether we like it or not.

Billy Magnussen plays a data-mining CEO trying to turn information into control, surrounded by bio-hacking tech bros, AI labs, and a whole ecosystem of people chasing the next big thing. It sounds like a dark comedy with a real bite to it, digging into privacy, ambition, and the delusions that come with thinking you can reshape the world. If it leans into the character dynamics and lets the chaos unfold, this could be a really fun one to watch.

The Audacity

April 5, 2026

Inside the bubble of Silicon Valley, a data-mining CEO strives to turn insight and influence into profit and power in this darkly comedic look at the warped dreams, outsized egos, and ethical lapses of the self-styled inventors of the future.

‘The Miniature Wife’ | Series | Peacock

Of all the shows on this list, this is the one I’m excited about most. “The Miniature Wife” drops all 10 episodes on Thursday, April 9, on Peacock, and the premise alone kind of sells it for me. Matthew Macfadyen plays a husband who accidentally shrinks his wife, played by Elizabeth Banks, with a device he invented… and then can’t figure out how to reverse it without killing her.

That’s such a wild setup, but what makes it interesting is that it’s really about the power dynamics in their marriage, just pushed to an extreme. It’s part comedy, part relationship drama, and it feels like the kind of show that could get pretty sharp about control, resentment, and who actually holds the power in a relationship. Also, Macfadyen coming off “Succession” playing another guy with a complicated dynamic? Count me in.

The Miniature Wife

April 9, 2026

Lindy and Les, a married writer and scientist, are forced to re-evaluate the power balances in their relationship after a freak accident shrinks Lindy down to 6 inches tall.

‘Your Friends & Neighbors’ Season 2 | Series | Apple TV

I ended up loving Season 1 of “Your Friends & Neighbors” way more than I expected. It took Tara and me a few episodes to get used to the very tight, tidy tone, but once it clicked, it became one of my favorite shows of 2025. So yeah, I’m all in for Season 2, which drops Friday, April 3, on Apple TV.

Jon Hamm’s Coop is doubling down on his whole suburban thief thing, which already feels like a terrible idea, and now there’s a new neighbor in the mix, played by James Marsden, who seems like he could blow everything up. That’s such a great pressure point for this show because it thrives on secrets and that polished, perfect surface starting to crack. I cannot wait to see what Coop gets himself into this season.

Your Friends & Neighbors

April 10, 2025

When a financial titan suddenly finds himself divorced and jobless, he starts robbing his wealthy neighbors to stay afloat. Stealing from his own social circle strangely exhilarates him—but he gradually gets tangled in a deadly web.

‘The Testaments’ | Series | Hulu

Going back into this world is a little intimidating, I’m not going to lie. “The Handmaid’s Tale” is such a heavy, intense watch, but it’s also one of the most powerful shows Hulu’s ever made, so I’m very curious to see how “The Testaments” builds on that. It premieres Wednesday, April 8, on Hulu, and this time the story shifts to a younger perspective inside Gilead. One of those girls is actually June’s firstborn daughter, Hannah Bankole, now a teenager, renamed Agnes Jemima, which is a pretty direct emotional throughline from the original.

Alongside her is Daisy, who comes in from Canada and sees Gilead from the outside. Setting it inside Aunt Lydia’s world and focusing on that next generation feels like a smart way in, especially if it leans into them starting to question everything they’ve been taught. If it captures even a piece of what made the original so gripping, this could be a really strong follow-up.

The Testaments

April 8, 2026

Growing up in Gilead is all they have ever known. As a new generation of young women grapple with the bleak future that awaits them, they will be forced to search for allies, new and old, to help in their fight for freedom.

‘Roommates’ | Movie | Netflix

This is exactly the kind of comedy Tara and I love. “Roommates” drops Friday, April 17, on Netflix. When a shy freshman meets a confident, slightly chaotic girl at orientation, they become instant best friends, and then slowly start driving each other insane once they’re forced to live together. That turn from “we’re inseparable” to full-on passive-aggressive war is such a great engine for comedy, especially in a college setting where everything already feels heightened.

You’ve got parties, bad decisions, spring break in Panama City, and all the little annoyances that somehow become massive problems when you can’t escape each other. And with a cast that includes Sadie Sandler, Chloe East, Natasha Lyonne, and Nick Kroll, it feels like this could really lean into the chaos.

Roommates

April 13, 2026

When shy college freshman Devon asks cool-girl Celeste to be her roommate, a blossoming friendship quickly spirals into a war of passive aggression.

‘Cheech & Chong’s Last Movie’ | Movie | Paramount+

There’s something kind of perfect about this dropping on 4/20. “Cheech & Chong’s Last Movie” hits Paramount+ on Monday, April 20, and it feels like a proper send-off for two comedy legends. The movie is part road trip, part documentary, with Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong basically taking one last ride together while looking back on everything they’ve built over the years.

You get the classic bits, the history of their partnership, and how their whole stoner comedy brand somehow lasted over 50 years. But underneath all that, it sounds like there’s a real friendship story holding it together, which makes this more than just a greatest hits collection. If you’ve ever watched their stuff, this feels like one of those “you kind of have to check it out” moments.

Cheech & Chong’s Last Movie

April 25, 2025

Exploring their 5-decade career performing stand-up, making records, and starring in hit films. It covers their lives, comedy partnership, and lasting influence on pop culture.

‘The Boys’ Season 5 | Series | Prime Video

This is the superhero show I’ve always wanted, and now it’s actually coming to an end. “The Boys” returns Wednesday, April 8, on Prime Video for its fifth and final season, kicking things off with a two-episode premiere before rolling out weekly. The world is basically under Homelander’s control at this point. The Boys are scattered, and everything feels like it’s heading toward a full-on collapse. Butcher’s back with a weapon that could wipe out all Supes, which feels like exactly the kind of insane escalation this show thrives on.

There just aren’t many shows on TV with as many “they actually went there” moments as this one. It’s constantly pushing the chaos, mixing brutal action with comedy, and somehow making it all work. Here’s hoping they stick the landing on one of the best shows of the last decade.

The Boys

July 25, 2019

A group of vigilantes known informally as “The Boys” set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than blue-collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty.

This show is NOT for kids, thanks to the profanity, gore, and sexual content. But it is an antidote for adult fans who might be a little bored with the stereotypical superhero fare. It’s funny, dramatic, exciting, and thought-provoking.

‘A Taste for Murder’ | Series | BritBox

I’ve watched enough British crime shows at this point to know the deal. No one ever gets a quiet vacation. “A Taste for Murder” premieres Tuesday, April 7, on BritBox, and it’s already doing that thing where a detective tries to escape their life… and immediately gets pulled into a case. Warren Brown plays a detective who heads to Capri to grieve his wife, reconnect with his daughter, and just slow things down for a bit.

Of course, that lasts about five minutes before a murder case lands right in front of him. The setting alone is a nice change, though. You’ve got this beautiful Italian backdrop mixed with a pretty personal story, which usually makes these feel a little more grounded. Six episodes, weekly rollout, and a detective who can’t stop working even when he really should. I’m in.

A Taste for Murder

April 7, 2026

Joe Mottram, a widowed metropolitan police detective, takes his daughter to Capri for the summer to stay with his in-laws. As they struggle to overcome their grief, Mottram becomes immersed in helping solve local crimes.
