Looking for great rom-com movies? Here’s the streamer that should be first on your list

From ‘Say Anything’ to ‘Palm Springs,’ Hulu nail every era of the rom-com.

With a background in film and branded content, he covers sports and entertainment with sharp insight and creativity. A longtime Oilers fan, he’s still holding out hope for a Stanley Cup run.

Rom-coms are my favorite genre because when they really work, they deliver one of the best story experiences. Put simply, they both make me laugh and move me emotionally. Now, I’m not talking about the made-for-TV kind with generic meet-cutes and soft lighting, but the real deal: big-screen, laugh-out-loud, emotionally layered stories that actually stick with you.

So I started digging across the streamers, looking for the good ones. And while it’s obviously subjective, the best collection I found was on Hulu. Not the most rom-coms, but the right ones for me — a killer mix of 2000s nostalgia, indie hits, and buzzy modern entries that all hit that sweet spot. Here’s why Hulu is the best streamer for rom-com lovers who want quality, not quantity.

Everything you need to know about the best streamer for rom-com movies.

What 2000s rom-coms can you watch on Hulu?

If we’re talking peak rom-com era, the 2000s had it on lock — and Hulu’s got a ton of the heavy hitters. Let’s start with “Wedding Crashers,” which is one of my favorite movies of all time. Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson crash weddings to meet women, but of course, things get complicated when real feelings get involved. It’s loud, raunchy, and incredibly sweet. Then you’ve got “500 Days of Summer,” the total opposite vibe — indie, sad, honest, and kind of brilliant. It’s not a love story, it’s a breakup story, and it still hits hard. And right in the middle sits “Garden State,” which leans more quirky-soulmate than traditional rom-com, but still nails the emotional core.

For those into big-screen charm and glossy 2000s vibes, Hulu’s got you covered. “27 Dresses” is classic Katherine Heigl — always the bridesmaid, never the bride, until the guy she least expects starts to matter. It’s predictable in the best way. Then there’s “Sweet Home Alabama,” where Reese Witherspoon plays a big-city fashion designer who has to go back to her small-town roots and messy ex. And if you’re craving that shop-’til-you-drop rom-com energy, “Confessions of a Shopaholic” delivers — wild outfits, romantic entanglements, and lots of retail therapy.

But the 2000s weren’t just about big drama and big dresses. Hulu also has a few gems that mix comedy with something a little different. “Just Wright” stars Queen Latifah as a physical therapist who falls for her NBA player client, and it’s got way more heart than people give it credit for. “Meet the Parents” is less about falling in love and more about surviving your in-laws — but it’s still a romantic nightmare at its core. And if you’re in the mood for a little existential awkwardness, “High Fidelity” brings the music, the heartbreak, and peak John Cusack narration.

Oh — and before we move on, Hulu’s also got one of the all-time greats: “Say Anything.” Technically late ’80s, but whatever — this one’s timeless. John Cusack with the boombox? That scene lives rent-free in pop culture forever. It’s sweet, weird, and totally worth the rewatch.

What 2010s rom-coms can you watch on Hulu?

Hulu’s 2010s rom-com lineup hits that sweet spot between sharp writing and actual emotional depth. “Long Shot” is one of the standouts — Seth Rogen plays a scruffy speechwriter who reconnects with his childhood crush, now a powerful political figure played by Charlize Theron. It’s way funnier than you’d expect from a political rom-com and somehow still manages to sell the romance. Then there’s “I Feel Pretty,” where Amy Schumer wakes up believing she’s supermodel-level hot, even though nothing about her appearance actually changes. The concept’s a little ridiculous, but the message lands, and it’s surprisingly feel-good.

Two more solid picks from this era are “Palm Springs” and “Happiest Season,” both of which feel fresh even after repeat watches. “Palm Springs” is a rom-com in a time loop — think “Groundhog Day,” but with more existential dread and better jokes. Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti have great chemistry, and the story somehow makes being stuck at a wedding forever… kind of moving? On the flip side, “Happiest Season” goes the holiday route but with a modern twist — it’s about a woman planning to propose to her girlfriend over Christmas, only to realize her partner hasn’t come out to her family. Classic rom-com stuff.

What 2020s rom-coms can you watch on Hulu?

Hulu’s newer rom-coms aren’t just here to check a box — they actually bring something fresh to the genre. One of the best examples is “Fire Island,” a smart and super fun modern riff on “Pride and Prejudice” set during a weeklong getaway with a group of gay best friends. Joel Kim Booster wrote and stars in it, and the whole thing is packed with sharp humor, heart, and a real sense of chosen family. It’s not just clever — it’s genuinely joyful, and it’s got one of the most charming slow-burn romances you’ll find in any rom-com, period.

Then there’s “The Hating Game,” which leans more traditional but still totally delivers. Lucy Hale and Austin Stowell play coworkers locked in a passive-aggressive office rivalry that’s obviously just covering up serious sexual tension. It’s based on a bestselling romance novel, so yeah — it’s a bit over the top, but in the best way. If you’re into the enemies-to-lovers thing, this one checks all the boxes.

What other streamers have rom-com movies?

Hulu’s got the edge, but Netflix is a very close second when it comes to rom-coms that actually hit. Their lineup blends big-screen favorites with buzzy originals — and a lot of them hold up surprisingly well.

Let’s start with “13 Going on 30,” which might be one of the most rewatchable rom-coms ever made. It’s charming, funny, and surprisingly emotional, with Jennifer Garner absolutely nailing the “thirty, flirty, and thriving” energy. If you’re in the mood for something new that still feels like a classic, “Anyone But You” brings that enemies-to-lovers energy back in a big way — with a beach wedding, hot people being petty, and some genuinely funny moments that made it a breakout hit.

Netflix has also built its own rom-com lane with originals like “Set It Up,” which helped revive the genre for a whole new audience. It’s got everything — workplace scheming, slow-burn tension, and Lucy Liu being iconic. Then there’s “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before,” which basically kicked off the modern teen rom-com wave. It’s sweet, heartfelt, and genuinely well-written. And don’t sleep on “Always Be My Maybe,” with Ali Wong and Randall Park bringing something super specific and hilarious to the table — including that Keanu Reeves cameo.

For more grown-up laughs, “Trainwreck” and “Crazy, Stupid, Love” both deliver. “Trainwreck” was the movie that launched Amy Schumer into stardom, and “Crazy, Stupid, Love” has one of the most stacked rom-com casts ever — Steve Carell, Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore. If you want something cozier, “The Holiday” and “Two Weeks Notice” both bring that soft-focus comfort watch vibe. Love, snow, New York apartments — you know the drill.

And finally, there’s “The Lovebirds,” which leans more into action-comedy but still delivers the rom-com goods. Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani have great chemistry, and the plot moves fast — like, murder-mystery-on-the-run fast. It’s silly in a good way, and another example of Netflix swinging for the genre and landing it.
