Can you disable autoplay on Apple TV+?

Can you disable autoplay on Apple TV+?

Autoplay is one area where the Apple TV+ interface might need an upgrade.

Known for breaking major streaming stories, he’s covered everything from Netflix policy shifts to Peacock’s ad-tier changes. A sci-fi fan and Toshiba Fire TV user, he brings sharp analysis and a love for the genre to his reporting.
Apple TV+ has autoplay settings you can adjust, but not the same way other streamers do.

Apple TV+ is a streaming service that, despite not watching it all that often, I have a really hard time canceling. There’s always a list of shows on the service that compels me, and titles I have watched like “Shrinking” and “Lessons in Chemistry” have kept me coming back to the service.

Alas, Apple TV+ also has autoplay trailers built into its home page, which is something I don’t care for. If you want to know more about changing that setting on Apple TV+, or whether you can keep the next episode from playing on the streamer automatically, read on for details.

Everything you need to know about autoplay on Apple TV+

Can you turn off autoplay on Apple TV+?

Yes and no. Let’s start with Apple TV+ on a computer; while there is no way to disable the autoplay of trailers on the streamer’s home page, you can pause and mute them with controls on the home page itself. This isn’t ideal; there should still be a way to disable autoplay of trailers in the first place. However, there is at least a solution available, even if it isn’t the best I think Apple TV+ could do.

You can also edit autoplay settings on Apple TV+ via the streamer’s website if you don’t want the service to play the next episode automatically. Apple TV+ also plays a recommendation next when you finish a given title on the service, and you can disable this setting as well.

These options are also available on the Apple TV app for Fire TV. On that platform, you can mute autoplay trailers in the settings menu, but you cannot stop them from playing. And on the Apple TV app for Android, you can mute autoplay trailers and adjust the same settings you can tweak on TV and on the web, but the option to mute autoplay trailers automatically is not found.

How to turn off autoplay on Apple TV+

Apple TV+ makes autoplay settings easy to find, at the very least. On any platform, go to your profile icon and click Settings. Scroll to the autoplay settings and change them to your liking. If you mute autoplay trailers on the home screen on your mobile device or computer, Apple TV+ will remember your choice the next time you visit.

Does adjusting autoplay on Apple TV+ affect all devices?

No, changing the autoplay adjustments on Apple TV+ will only affect those settings on the device you change them on. The Apple TV app on my smart TV specifically informed me that changing settings there would only apply to the TV, not to my other devices.

Can you turn autoplay back on with Apple TV+?

Yes, Apple TV+ allows you to head back into the settings menu and change your autoplay settings any time you wish.

Apple TV

Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+) is a subscription video streaming service for $14.99 per month, offering a growing slate of original series, films, documentaries, and specials. Unlike other platforms that combine licensed titles with originals, Apple TV is built entirely around exclusive programming, making it the home of critically acclaimed hits such as “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” “The Morning Show,” and “Silo.” Its lineup continues to expand with award-winning dramas, comedies, family-friendly shows, and blockbuster original films like “CODA,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

…

In October 2025, Apple TV agreed to a deal with Formula 1 to exclusively broadcast all Formula 1 races starting with the 2026 season.

Apple TV also features coverage of all regular-season matches for Major League Soccer (MLS) at no additional cost.

On August 28th, 2026, the price of Apple TV was increased from $12.99 per month to $14.99 per month, the second increase in as many years.

The service is available worldwide through the Apple TV app, which is built into Apple devices and supported on most smart TVs, streaming players like Roku and Fire TV, game consoles, and web browsers. Subscribers can watch on demand, download episodes and movies for offline viewing, and stream in 4K with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, where available. Apple TV also offers family sharing, allowing up to six people to use one subscription at no extra cost.

With a competitive monthly price and bundles available through Apple One — which combines Apple TV with Apple Music, Apple Arcade, iCloud storage, and more — the service continues to grow as a key part of Apple’s ecosystem. Apple TV delivers one of the strongest collections of exclusive content in the streaming space for viewers seeking prestige originals, cinematic storytelling, and seamless access across devices.
