DAZN sees 23% subscriber increase in NFL Game Pass’ second season
NFL Game Pass is the only way for international fans to watch every NFL game including the Super Bowl.
The NFL is big business, especially when it comes to media rights. The lure of the league’s massive fanbase and advertising draw even has the world’s largest streamer Netflix considering pursuing a major package of Sunday games. However, the NFL is not just a major draw in the United States. On Wednesday, sports streamer DAZN announced that in the second season of its 10-year deal to bring NFL Game Pass to international audiences saw major viewership increases on both the paid and free versions of the package.
Key Details
- DAZN saw a 23% increase in paid NFL Game Pass subscribers in 2024.
- The service’s weekly free game saw a 47% viewership jump.
- For this past season, DAZN launched the Ultimate Tier, bringing even more features to international football fans.
DAZN took over the broadcasting of NFL Game Pass in 2023 and rapidly increased the number of games available, taking it from two per week before to 17 as of this season. On DAZN, the games are also available in five different languages and launched on Prime Video Channels in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, Mexico, and Brazil. These changes helped propel the service to a 23% increase in paid subscribers over the previous season.
Additionally, DAZN makes one game free every week around the world except in Australia, Austria, Brazil, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, and the U.K. New and casual football fans checking out this no-cost option rose 47% year-over-year. According to DAZN, earlier this month, Super Bowl LIX was streamed for 95 million minutes in over 200 markets around the world.
“DAZN is proud to partner with the NFL and support one of the world’s largest sports properties in reaching new audiences internationally,” DAZN CEO Shay Segev said. “DAZN continues to elevate the NFL Game Pass experience, launching features and enhancing the viewing experience with every year of our long-term collaboration. We are excited to celebrate the culmination of a successful second season of our partnership, where we’ve brought the drama and passion of NFL action to even more fans around the world.”
For this season, DAZN launched the Ultimate Tier on NFL Game Pass. This new subscription option unlocked new features designed to enhance the viewing experience. One of the most prized features for any sports fan is Multiview. On the Ultimate Tier in 2024, subscribers could watch multiple games at the same time, ensuring that they didn’t miss a moment of the action. Ultimate Tier customers also had the opportunity to watch the Super Bowl’s domestic Fox broadcast in High Dynamic Range (HDR), giving them enhanced brightness, clarity, and richness.
“The NFL’s media distribution strategy has long been a key part of our growth and success,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said. “As we look to become a global brand, providing fans around the world access to our games is incredibly important. In just two years as our Game Pass partner, DAZN has brought first-class technology and innovation to the product, providing a better viewing experience for our fans and helping to grow our game.”
In addition to the games themselves, DAZN has also launched the “Home of NFL.” This feature allows fans to dive deep into individual teams, specific games, and original content, providing even more insight into the games for international fans.
