The series about a neglected cold case unit in Edinburgh is coming back for a new season.
If you’re tired of waiting around for the new season of “Slow Horses,” there’s another crime drama series from the United Kingdom that’s filled with quirky characters who would love your attention. That show is “Dept. Q,” which was officially announced as being renewed by Netflix for a second season this week.
Key Details:
- They’re back!: Netflix is bringing back “Dept. Q” for a second season.
- Frosty reception: The series follows a cold case unit packed with outcasts.
- Well-liked Season 1 of “Dept. Q” received an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Dept. Q” is officially back for a second season on Netflix. The show is written and directed by Scott Frank, and will film its second season in Edinburgh, just like Season 1. The series stars Matthew Goode as Detective Chief Inspector Carl Morck, a brilliant law enforcer who is traumatized when he survives a shooting that kills a young police officer and paralyzes his partner.
As he attempts to deal with that trauma, Morck is shunted into the police department’s cold case unit. There, he begins to assemble a cast of misfits as forlorn as himself, and in Season 1, they joined together to help solve the case of missing prosecutor Merritt Lingard.
The first season of “Dept. Q” premiered on the streamer on May 29 and was met with enthusiasm. It has an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, and 90% of audiences who watch have also given it their approval. The series spent six weeks on the Netflix Top 10 list whe it was released in May.
“We are raring to return to Carl Morck and his band of glorious misfits at ‘Dept. Q,’” producers Qureshi and Manda Levin said in a statement. “Scott Frank brought us best-in-class storytelling and thrilled Netflix audiences worldwide. We can’t wait to see what Morck and the gang uncover in Season 2…. Edinburgh, we’re back.”
“I’d like to thank Netflix for giving us the opportunity to further investigate Department Q’s storylines,” Goode said of the renewal. “We have a wonderful cast and crew, headed by our resident genius Scott Frank. I cannot wait to read what comes from his magic quill!”
