What is ‘Behind the Curtain: Stranger Things: The First Shadow’ about?

The idea to turn “Stranger Things” into a play originated in 2019, and the production tells an original story. It takes audiences back to Hawkins, Indiana in 1959, and follows new Hawkins High School student Henry Creel, whose family is on the hunt for a fresh start. None of them know that he will one day turn into the villainous Vecna, who will stop at nothing to destroy Hawkins and pull it into the Upside Down.

“Behind the Curtain” tells the story of the incredibly hard work that it took to bring that vision to the stage. Viewers can follow long with the production team as they race to get everything ready before its 2023 premiere in London, as anxious fans and critics await its release.

Are other characters from the series in the play?

Yes, they are. Viewers will get reacquainted with younger versions of Jim Hopper, Joyce Byers (then Joyce Maldonado), Bob Newby, Dr. Brenner, and other characters from the “Stranger Things” TV series.

Will you be able to watch ‘Behind the Curtain: Stranger Things: The First Shadow’ for free?

No. The documentary will be a Netflix exclusive, and Netflix does not offer any free trials to new or returning customers. The cheapest way to stream the documentary will be with a subscription to Netflix’s Standard with Ads plan, which costs $8 per month.
