DIRECTV announces new carriage deal with TelevisaUnivision
The deal will preserve access to TelevisaUnivision channels for DIRECTV customers, and adds new choices to its MiEspañol channel package.
DIRECTV will continue to stay in business with TelevisaUnivision, one of the largest providers of Spanish-language content in the world. The two sides announced on Wednesday that they had completed a new, multi-year carriage agreement, one that will both preserve already-established access to TelevisaUnivision content and expand it in new ways for DIRECTV subscribers.
Key Details:
- The new agreement means there will be no blackout of TelevisaUnivision channels on DIRECTV.
- TelevisaUnivision linear channels are joining DIRECTV’s MiEspañol package.
- ViX Premium with Ads will also become part of this package in the near future.

The new carriage deal between DIRECTV and TelevisaUnivision will help customers avoid the dreaded channel blackout that happens when such agreements expire. That’s not to say that a blackout was imminent, but now there won’t be any risk of DIRECTV customers losing access to TelevisaUnivision channels for multiple years to come.
“Whether it’s news, live sports, telenovelas and general entertainment, local civic affairs or any of its other key genres, TelevisaUnivision is synonymous with some of the very best in Spanish-language programming,” said DIRECTV executive Rob Thun. “We look forward to continuing what has proven an important and mutually beneficial relationship for the next several years.”
In addition to continued distribution of its linear channels in the packages where they now reside, DIRECTV is adding TelevisaUnivision networks to its recently-launched MiEspañol plan, which comes with more than 60 channels total for $35 per month. The ad-supported tier of ViX Premium will also join MiEspañol in the coming months at no additional cost.
“We’re excited to expand our partnership with DIRECTV, reflecting the continued dedication to our audience and the recognition that Hispanics are a fast-growing part of mainstream America,” TelevisaUnivision EVP Mike Angus said. “This deal not only ensures our industry-leading content reaches millions of viewers but also solidifies our position as the definitive leader in media among U.S. Hispanics.”
The MiEspañol plan was one of several new channel packages recently launched by DIRECTV, in order to allow viewers to watch the content they want to see most without having to overpay for channels they don’t watch often.
