Does AMC+ offer any live sporting events?
Everything you need to know about the availability of live sports programming on AMC+.
Premium cable channels like HBO and Showtime have a long history of offering live sports like boxing matches. AMC, however, has always kept its focus on entertainment, and outside a recent deal with TNA Wrestling, the channel is fairly light on live sports content.
Does that extend to the AMC streaming service AMC+? That platform has a wide range of content, from AMC originals to horror programming from Shudder, international content from IFC Films, and a lot more. We’ll explain whether its lineup includes any live sports below.
Does AMC+ offer any live sports?
Are there any live sports on AMC+?
No, AMC+ does not offer any live sporting events. Offering live sports would no doubt raise the price of an AMC+ subscription; sports rights are the most expensive category of property in entertainment, and making that kind of financial commitment would force AMC to charge much more than $7 per month for AMC+.
The new deal with TNA Wrestling does allow episodes of “Thursday Night iMPACT” to stream on AMC+ the day after they air live on the AMC linear channel. Perhaps live streams of these episodes will join AMC+ in the future, but for now, a next-day stream is the only option viewers have.
Will AMC+ add any live sports in the future?
As discussed, it’s highly unlikely that AMC+ will add a major selection of live sports from top professional leagues or college conferences in the future. AMC simply doesn’t have the heft to purchase such sports rights, and is more suited as an entertainment company. Audiences should expect AMC+ to maintain a focus on offering a budget-friendly library of entertainment going forward.
