Does the new ESPN streamer have any 4K content?

Does the new ESPN streamer have any 4K content?

ESPN is increasing its lineup of 4K sporting events, but has that resolution made its way to the new ESPN streamer?

ESPN does not offer any 4K programming on its DTC service.

More and more top TV channels are figuring out how to deliver huge broadcast events in 4K. ESPN is definitely among these; the channel delivered the main broadcast of the 2025 NCAA Division I Football National Championship in 4K, and while it was upscaled rather than a native 4K presentation, it still represented a big commitment on the channel’s part to provide more content in Ultra-High-Definition.

ESPN has been making great strides on the streaming front, as well, and now presents customers with a way to watch its programming for $30 per month without a pay-TV subscription. The new ESPN direct-to-consumer (DTC) service is available now, but does it come with any 4K programming? We took a look to find out.

What you need to know about watching in 4K on ESPN

Does ESPN have any 4K programming?

There doesn’t appear to be any way to watch in 4K on the new ESPN direct-to-consumer service, either on the ESPN Select or ESPN Unlimited tiers. This isn’t all that surprising; the service’s predecessor ESPN+ also did not present any live events in 4K, and while Disney+ and Hulu do have some 4K content, the Hulu + Live TV service, which carries the ESPN linear channel, does not.

Viewers will have to be satisfied with HD streaming on the ESPN DTC service for the moment, but there are still a huge number of sporting events to stream there, and a wide range of features to enjoy with a subscription.

Will ESPN add 4K programming in the future?

I think there’s at least a decent chance that 4K resolution will come to the ESPN DTC product at some point. ESPN’s cable channel has been more active in providing 4K broadcasts in the past few years, even if they are not native 4K productions but rather upscaled from 1080p. At the very least, this shows the company has an interest in expanding its 4K footprint.

That probably won’t lead to any 4K live events on the new ESPN streaming service right away, but in the next few years, I think there is a chance the streamer could get some UHD abilities.

Which live TV streamers carry 4K programming?

There are a few live TV streaming services that carry 4K events on channels like ESPN and others, when available. DIRECTV, Fubo, Sling TV, and YouTube TV all offer 4K in some form, though Fubo and YouTube TV make you either purchase an additional bundle to watch 4K or upgrade to a higher tier of service.

ESPN Unlimited

ESPN launched its highly anticipated direct-to-consumer streaming service on August 21, 2025. For the first time, this service gives sports fans access to its full lineup of linear channels without a traditional cable or satellite subscription.

…

Subscribers can pay the $31.99 monthly fee for ESPN Unlimited, which unlocks all ESPN linear channels — including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPNEWS, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN on ABC — plus ESPN+ and ESPN3, totaling around 47,000 live events each year. A subscription may be purchased monthly or annually.

ESPN+ content is available as part of an ESPN Ultimate subscription; those seeking only ESPN+ can subscribe to ESPN Select for $13.99 instead.

ESPN Unlimited offers extensive coverage of the NFL, NBA, MLB, college sports, UFC, soccer, tennis, and more, along with original programming, studio shows, and “30 for 30” documentaries. Starting in 2026, the platform will become the exclusive U.S. streaming home for WWE’s premium live events, including WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Royal Rumble.

NFL Network and NFL RedZone are also included through an NFL-ESPN partnership, which adds draft coverage, preseason games, and NFL+ Premium features. The enhanced ESPN app will feature Multiview for watching multiple games simultaneously, real-time stats, betting and fantasy tools, personalized highlight reels, and even e-commerce options for tickets and merchandise.

On September 1, 2026, ESPN Unlimited prices were raised — barely a year after launch — from $13 to $14 per month for ESPN Select and from $30 to $32 for ESPN Unlimited.

Viewers can subscribe directly or bundle ESPN Unlimited with Disney+ and Hulu. With its robust live sports lineup, premium features, and the convenience of streaming anywhere, ESPN’s new service is a must-have for die-hard sports fans looking to cut the cord without sacrificing coverage.
