Does Pluto TV have any titles in 4K?

Does Pluto TV have any titles in 4K?

As a free streaming service, you might not expect Pluto TV to offer any 4K content. Is that the reality of the service?

Known for breaking major streaming stories, he’s covered everything from Netflix policy shifts to Peacock’s ad-tier changes. A sci-fi fan and Toshiba Fire TV user, he brings sharp analysis and a love for the genre to his reporting.
Pluto TV does have at least one 4K title available.

As a general rule of thumb, it’s a good bet that a free streaming service will, on average, have less 4K content than paid streamers do. Free streaming platforms often come with fewer features than paid plans, and the ability to stream in Ultra-High-Definition is more and more often being reserved for the highest-priced streaming packages.

In light of that fact, it may surprise many readers to know that Pluto TV does have 4K content. But how much of it, and which specific titles or channels are available? We’ll answer that question right here.

Everything you need to know about 4K streaming on Pluto TV

Does Pluto TV have any 4K content?

When I searched the Pluto TV library for 4K shows and movies, only one title came up: the 1961 monster flick “Gorgo,” which has been remastered in 4K. That is the only confirmed 4K title I can say with certainty is available on Pluto TV.

Are there others? It’s difficult to say for sure. Various sources around the internet say that Pluto TV offers 4K titles, but unfortunately, there’s no way to confirm that on the Pluto website. Unlike most other streaming services, Pluto does not have a small badge on the details page of titles that tells viewers whether or not that title is in 4K.

So, while it might be possible that Pluto TV does indeed offer 4K titles, in general, viewers should not expect to see on-demand content or FAST channels stream on that platform in UHD in general.

Will Pluto TV get more 4K content in the future?

That’s a tricky question to consider. On the one hand, Pluto TV is now under the control of Paramount’s new ownership team, and that group has repeatedly promised to build up the tech on its streaming apps to improve them. Presumably, that will include some kind of upgrade for the Pluto TV platform.

On the other hand, Paramount is one of the companies that reserves the ability to stream in 4K for its highest-priced paid plan, namely the Paramount+ Premium tier. If Paramount+ Essential customers who still pay for their subscription don’t get 4K, I highly doubt that Pluto TV will roll out a large selection of 4K titles any time soon.

Why doesn’t Pluto TV have more 4K titles?

As we touched on earlier, free streaming services like Pluto TV often include the trade-off of fewer features for no monthly price. Customers shouldn’t expect to see a wide selection of 4K content on any free streaming services; paid streamers rely on revenue generated by subscriptions to offer titles in premium video formats.

Pluto TV

Pluto TV is a free streaming service backed by Paramount that offers a traditional cable-like channel surfing experience. The service offers hundreds of free round-the-clock channels, including classics like “Star Trek,” “The Twilight Zone,” and “The Price is Right.”

…

Rather than attempting to carry expensive local broadcast affiliates or high-profile live sports leagues, the lineup leans heavily into curated thematic programming. You will find dedicated channels cycling non-stop episodes of many classic TV shows, alongside niche feeds for anime, true crime, classic sitcoms, and live headline news loops from outlets like CBS News. Alongside the live grid, there is also a hefty on-demand vault filled with older Hollywood catalog films, cult classics, and complete archived series.

Because Pluto TV mirrors linear broadcast television, you cannot pause or fast-forward through commercial breaks, nor is there a cloud DVR feature to record airings for later viewing. That said, it’s a great alternative for those looking for a wide range of channels without subscription fees.
