Does Prime Video Have a Free Trial?

Known for breaking major streaming stories, he’s covered everything from Netflix policy shifts to Peacock’s ad-tier changes. A sci-fi fan and Toshiba Fire TV user, he brings sharp analysis and a love for the genre to his reporting.
Prime Video offers one of the most generous free trials in streaming, so long as viewers sign up for an Amazon Prime trial as well.

Who doesn’t love a good freebie? Free trials can be powerful tools for streaming providers, giving customers a glimpse of the platform’s on-demand library and potentially hooking them with a new favorite title before they must decide whether to commit hard-earned dollars to that service. Not every service gives a free trial these days, but Amazon’s video streaming service Prime Video still does, and it’s one of the longest in the entire industry!

Access to Prime Video is included in the 30-day free trial new customers get when they sign up for Amazon Prime. It allows viewers to watch Prime Video with limited ads for an entire month while they test out all the benefits of Prime membership.

What Plan Options Does Prime Video Have?

Viewers can choose between Prime Video ad-supported and Prime Video ad-free when they sign up.

Prime Video has two subscription options, which customers can get through a larger Prime subscription or sign up for as a standalone service. If you decide to subscribe to just Prime Video, you will not be able to choose any annual subscription options.

  • Prime Video: $8.99 per month
  • Prime Video Ad-Free: $12.98 per month

Either Prime Video plan will get you access to the 14,000+ TV shows and movies (as of January 2024) on the service, including titles like “The Boys,” “Reacher,” “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” “Road House” and many more. Live sports are also available on both Prime Video plans, including weekly streams of “Thursday Night Football,” an exclusive NFL Wild Card game following the 2024 season, and potentially a large number of NBA games per season starting in 2025.

Going with the Prime Video Ad-Free plan will cut out commercials during playback of all on-demand content, though live events will still include ads.

How to Sign Up for Prime Video

  1. Head to the Amazon website.
  2. Click “Start your 30-day free trial.”
  3. Click “Create your Amazon account” when prompted to sign in.
  4. Enter an email address and password, then enter payment information.
  5. Finish signing up with Amazon Prime and start browsing Prime Video.

The Amazon Prime free trial is available to any customers who have never tried the service before. If this describes you, it’s incredibly easy to try out ad-supported Prime Video for an entire month before committing to pay for it by signing up for a Prime free trial and enjoying all of its benefits for 30 days.
