Will the new ESPN streaming service intergate into Apple TV?
The Apple TV app is a great streaming content aggregator, but will it get buy-in from ESPN?
In case you somehow hadn’t heard the news, ESPN is launching a new streaming product on Aug. 21. The direct-to-consumer offering from ESPN allows viewers to watch everything appearing on ESPN’s cable channels, and its launch raises a handful of new, ancillary questions. One of those questions that Apple TV owners surely have if they’re interested in subscribing: will ESPN’s new streamer integrate into the Apple TV app fully?
Key Details:
- Getting friendly : ESPN will fully integrate into the Apple TV app.
- Watch it now: Viewers will be able to see the ESPN streamer in the Channels & Apps row.
- Not for everyone: Netflix is a notable streamer that doesn’t support integration with the Apple TV app.
The decision not to partner with the Apple TV app would mean that customers who sign up for the new ESPN streaming service would have to look around a lot more to find it. There’s good news on that score, however, 9to5 Mac reports that ESPN’s new streamer will indeed support integration with Apple TV.
An ESPN representative confirmed that fact to 9to5 Mac, meaning that viewers will be able to see the streamer in the Apple TV Channels & Apps row. This will make it much easier to find, maintaining the convenience factor that Apple TV owners have become so accustomed to.
The aggregation feature is one of the best offered by Apple TV. It shows viewers what they can watch across different streaming apps, cutting down on confusion as well as the time required to browse through choices. Streaming services have to opt in to be integrated in the Apple TV content carousels, however, and there was no guarantee that ESPN would do so.
Netflix is one notable streaming service that doesn’t make itself available to be integrated into the Apple TV interface, likely because it thinks its app and titles do enough to promote themselves. Integration of ESPN should make existing sports features in the Apple TV app even better.
ESPN’s new streaming service costs $30 per month on its own, but customers can also choose to sign up for it as part of the Disney Bundle.
ESPN Unlimited
ESPN launched its highly anticipated direct-to-consumer streaming service on August 21, 2025. For the first time, this service gives sports fans access to its full lineup of linear channels without a traditional cable or satellite subscription.
