Here’s everything you need to know about Plex.

Everything You Need to Know About ‘Plex’:

What Is ‘Plex’?

Plex is a comprehensive media platform that combines a free streaming service with the ability to manage and stream your own personal media. In fact, it’s our Content Director’s most watched service – and you can read his breakdown of Plex here.

On the streaming side, Plex offers access to over 50,000 movies and TV shows on demand, as well as more than 1,100 live TV channels across 193 countries. It gives viewers access to live local news channels in select cities, including Detroit, Atlanta, Memphis, Jacksonville, Tulsa, Boston, and Seattle.

But Plex is more than just an ad-supported streamer. It also lets you manage your own media by connecting your devices to Plex so you can stream and share any media on your hard drive, effectively turning your personal computer into a powerful media server. So, you can curate and enjoy your own digital content alongside a massive library of free, ad-supported TV shows and movies. Not bad!

Plex also gives users one of the most useful features in a cluttered streaming world - a universal watchlist. That means no more juggling between apps. Just add your favorite streaming services to the platform, and Plex becomes a central launchpad for finding and watching shows and movies, no matter which service they live on.

How Much Does ‘Plex’ Cost?

Plex is totally free to use. It’s an ad-supported streaming service, so it makes money by serving ads during playback. Plex does offer a paid tier, known as Plex Pass for $5 per month (or $40 per year OR $120 for a lifetime subscription). This gets you features like offline downloads, DVR capabilities for recording live TV, high-quality music streaming, and enhanced photo management.

What Movies and TV Shows Can You Watch on ‘Plex’?

Plex has a ton of free movies and TV shows, organized into categories like “Holiday Therapy,” “Plex Picks,” “The Dojo,” “Bingeworthy Shows,” “Most Popular in the U.S.,” and more. For thriller fans, you can catch Liam Neeson doing what he does best (beating people up) in the movie “Honest Thief.” Neeson plays a notorious bank robber who has stolen over $9 million throughout his criminal career. But when he falls in love with Annie, he decides to turn his life around and come clean to the FBI in exchange for a reduced sentence. But things quickly spiral out of control when two corrupt agents double-cross him, attempting to seize the money for themselves.

For comedy TV fans, you can watch all nine seasons of the “The Drew Carey Show” – which follows Drew as an assistant director of personnel in a Cleveland department store and has been stuck there for ten years. Other than fighting with co-worker Mimi, his hobbies include drinking beer and not being able to get dates. There’s also popular shows like “Spartacus,” all eight seasons of “Weeds,” and even newer shows like “Kevin Can F**k Himself” and “The Walking Dead” spinoffs, “Daryl Dixon” and “Fear The Walking Dead.”

For fans of British TV, you can watch episodes of “Gracepoint” and all three seasons of the murder-mystery “Broadchurch.” Set in the small, picturesque coastal town of Broadchurch, the crime drama follows detectives Alec Hardy (David Tennant) and Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) as they investigate the shocking murder of an 11-year-old boy, Danny Latimer.

And for horror fans, there’s a pretty solid collection of great horror movies, including hits like “It Follows.” One of the best horror movies of 2015, it tells the story of Jay, who, after a mysterious sexual encounter, is pursued by a relentless, shape-shifting entity that only she can see. There’s also the hit indie-horror movie, “Terrifier” – following the maniacal Art the clown who terrorizes three young women on Halloween night.
