Can you watch ‘Elle’ for free?
Possibly. Prime Video offers a 30-day free trial for new users, so if you time it up properly, you could definitely watch without paying anything. However, to do so, you would have to wait until a few episodes in to start your watching journey. If you are excited for the premiere as soon as possible and want to get swept up in the inevitable pink excitement, then your trial will run out before the season finale.
In addition, there is a decent chance that you might have access to Prime Video already, without even knowing it. The streaming service comes as an included benefit with every Amazon Prime membership. So, if you are already getting free shipping from the online retailer, you already have access to Prime Video as well.
If not, you can sign up for a subscription for $9 per month, or ad-free for $14. However, considering that these games will include commercials, regardless of which plan you choose, I would go with the cheaper ad-supported option, which is just $15 per month for the full Amazon Prime experience.

What is ‘Elle’ about?
Before she was arguing cases in front of a judge, Elle Woods was just a high schooler trying to find her way — though, of course, she did it with style. “Elle” is a new Prime Video prequel series that rewinds the clock, giving us a look at the teenage years of the sorority queen-turned-lawyer who first stole the spotlight in “Legally Blonde.”
That movie introduced Elle as a fashion-obsessed, seemingly ditzy California girl who follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law, determined to prove she’s more than just a pretty face. What starts as an effort to win him back quickly turns into a journey of self-discovery, as Elle shatters expectations, conquers law school, and shows everyone — especially herself — that she’s far more capable than anyone ever gave her credit for. The film became an instant classic, turning Reese Witherspoon into a household name and delivering some of the most quotable moments in early 2000s cinema.
Set long before Harvard and her courtroom victories, “Elle” follows young Elle Woods as she navigates high school, discovering who she is before she ever dreams of becoming a lawyer. The series promises to explore the experiences that shaped her into the fierce, determined woman audiences fell in love with. While details are being kept under wraps, it does appear that, at least when the series starts, Elle is not living in Southern California, but in the Pacific Northwest.
Based on the trailer, the big shake-up is that Elle isn’t just living her best Bel-Air high school life. She gets transplanted to Seattle, where the whole vibe is extremely different. Less sunny, less familiar, and definitely less Elle-friendly. That should give the show a fun fish-out-of-water setup, with Elle trying to stay true to herself in a place that doesn’t immediately know what to do with all that pink, confidence, and optimism. Given that the series will take place in the 1990s, is it possible that her family hit it big in the tech boom before moving to Bel-Air?
Who stars in ‘Elle’?
Newcomer Lexi Minetree stars in the title role of the teenage Elle Woods. June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott play her parents, with Jacob Moskovitz, Gabrielle Policano, Chandler Kinney, Zac Looker, and Amy Pietz rounding out the main cast.
Also appearing in the series will be Jessica Belkin, Danielle Chand, Matt Oberg, Chloe Wepper, Logan Shroyer, Sharon Taylor, David Burtka, Brad Harder, Kayla Maisonet, Lisa Yamada, and the late James Van Der Beek.

Who are the creators of ‘Elle’?
“Elle” is created by Laura Kittrell, who also serves as the showrunner. Kittrell has built a strong reputation as a writer and producer on sharp, character-driven shows like “Insecure” and “High School.” With Reese Witherspoon and her production company, Hello Sunshine, backing the series, “Elle” is in good hands.
Kittrell’s ability to balance humor, heart, and compelling storytelling makes her a great bet to bring young Elle Woods’ world to life. Caroline Dries will be Kittrell’s co-show runner, having worked on such shows as “Smallville,” “Melrose Place,” “The Vampire Diaries,” and “Batwoman,” all for The CW.
Will Reese Witherspoon appear in ‘Elle’?
Reese Witherspoon won’t be stepping back into Elle Woods’ iconic pink heels this time, but she’s still heavily involved behind the scenes. As an executive producer through her company, Hello Sunshine, Witherspoon is helping shape “Elle” and has been hands-on in the casting process — she even personally announced Lexi Minetree as the new Elle. While she won’t be on screen, her influence will definitely be felt throughout the series.
Although you never know if a modern-day Elle might make an appearance to provide some context about the life of her teenage self.
Is ‘Legally Blonde 3’ still happening?
Fans have been waiting on “Legally Blonde 3” for years, and while “Elle” is the newest project in the franchise, it doesn’t mean the sequel is dead. Reese Witherspoon has hinted that the third film is still in development, with Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor working on the script.
No production or release dates have been set, and there’s been very little in terms of updates since Kaling and Goor were first attached in 2020, but you can stay hopeful for a third “Legally Blonde” movie, especially if “Elle” becomes a hit and brings a whole new generation of fans to the franchise.
