What is ‘The Sandman’ Season 2 about?
Season 2 of “The Sandman” picks up just a few weeks after the events of Season 1, with Dream working to rebuild his kingdom after being away for more than a century. But as much as he wants to move forward, the past isn’t done with him yet. Old betrayals are coming back around, including the fallout from Desire’s plot to destroy him, and the storm brewing in Hell thanks to Lucifer’s big, mysterious plan. Plus, Dream’s bond to Lyta’s dream-born son — a kid who technically belongs to him — is about to cause even more trouble. As Dream tries to hold his world together, he’ll be forced to deal with gods, monsters, nightmares, and even the twisted politics of the Endless family, all while wrestling with the one thing he’s spent forever avoiding: change.
This season isn’t just staying in the Dreaming, either — it’s expanding across time and space. Dream’s journey will take him everywhere from the ancient underworld of Hades and Persephone to the court of Faerie, to Elizabethan England, and even the middle of the French Revolution. We’re also meeting a whole new group of major players, including Delirium, Destiny, the Prodigal (aka Destruction), and powerful figures like Thor, Loki, and Odin. Every one of them has their own agenda, and Dream’s not exactly great at making allies. With eleven episodes split into two Volumes this July, and huge consequences for Dream, the Dreaming, and the waking world all at stake, Season 2 is shaping up to be even darker, weirder, and bigger than anything we’ve seen so far.

Who’s been cast in ‘The Sandman’ Season 2?
Most of the main cast from Season 1 is back for “The Sandman” Season 2, so expect to see Tom Sturridge, Kirby, Mason Alexander Park, Donna Preston, Vivienne Acheampong, and more returning to the Dreaming. But there’s also a bunch of big new faces joining the story. Esmé Creed-Miles is playing Delirium, Dream’s wild and unpredictable younger sister, while Adrian Lester steps in as Destiny, and Barry Sloane plays the long-lost Prodigal. Plus, you’ve got Ruairi O’Connor as Dream’s son Orpheus, Freddie Fox as Loki, Clive Russell as Odin, Laurence O’Fuarain as Thor, and even Jack Gleeson popping up as the trickster Puck. With new gods, new nightmares, and new family drama on the way, Season 2’s cast is seriously stacked.
What happened at the end of ‘The Sandman’ Season 1?
Spoiler Alert. There are spoilers below for Season 1 of ‘The Sandman.’
Season 1 of “The Sandman” ends with Dream barely dodging a cosmic disaster — and setting up way bigger problems for next season. After spending most of the season putting the Dreaming back together, Dream faces his toughest call yet when he realizes Rose Walker’s existence as a dream vortex could unravel both his realm and the waking world. He almost kills her to stop it, but Unity Kincaid (Rose’s great-grandmother) steps in with a wild twist: the vortex power was never meant for Rose in the first place.
Unity sacrifices herself, taking the vortex into her own heart and dying peacefully in her sleep, saving everyone. Meanwhile, Lyta Hall’s dream-born baby is now permanently tied to Dream, setting the stage for even more chaos. And on top of it all, Desire’s big scheme to trick Dream into murdering a family member fails — but just barely — meaning that feud is far from over.
And that’s not even the biggest cliffhanger. Over in Hell, Lucifer Morningstar is brewing a plan that could flip the entire universe on its head. Instead of marching an army straight into the Dreaming like her demon lords want, she’s plotting something way bigger — something that’ll make God furious and leave Morpheus completely wrecked. Plus, Gault, the rogue nightmare Dream once punished, gets a second chance as a dream (a pretty major move for a guy who hates change).
We also got hints at three huge characters we haven’t met yet: Destiny, Delirium, and the mysterious Prodigal. By the time the credits roll, it’s clear Season 2 isn’t just going to be bigger — it’s going to tear through gods, demons, dreams, and everything in between.
