Multiple streaming services have committed to launching vertical video feeds to better compete with platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. It appears Disney+ is the first to widely launch its vertical video; however, it announced that its new Verts feature is making its way to customers in the United States this week as part of a phased rollout. We’ll fill you in on all the details you need to know about Disney+ Verts below!

Everything you need to know about Disney+ Verts

What are Verts on Disney+?

Verts are a new addition to the Disney+ mobile app. They’re playlists of vertical videos that audiences can swipe through, just like they can on their favorite social video platform. With Verts, Disney+ viewers will see scenes and moments from TV shows and movies on Disney+.

There will also be a content discovery function for Verts. While scrolling, viewers can add titles they see to their Watchlist, or simply tap the screen in the appropriate place to start watching that show or movie immediately.

Disney+ first announced the launch of Verts in January, and didn’t waste any time bringing the new feature to market.

Are Verts available on all Disney+ plans?

Yes, Verts are available to all Disney+ subscribers, whether on the ad-supported Basic plan, the ad-free Premium tier, or in any of the Disney Bundles.

Is Verts available to all Disney+ subscribers now?

Not yet. Verts is undergoing a phased launch, meaning some Disney+ subscribers will get it before others. The feature is intended to work on Android and iOS, so there’s no need to worry that Verts won’t work on your phone once it’s added to your Disney+ app.

How to use Verts on Disney+

If Verts are available on the Disney+ app on your device, you will see the icon for the feature on the bottom row of the app when you open it. Just tap there and start scrolling!

Will more content join Verts in the future?

Yes. While Verts is mostly populated with TV show and movie clips for now, Disney promises that “other storytelling formats, content types, and personalized experiences” will join the Verts feed in the future.

Why did Disney+ launch Verts?

As mentioned above, Disney+ is among several streamers adding vertical video scrolls to boost engagement, particularly among Gen Z and Gen Alpha subscribers, who are most frequently found on social video sites.

Netflix will roll out vertical video later this year, and Paramount+ will add short-form videos to its platform in the coming months as well. The battle for engagement is just heating up, and viewers can probably expect every major streamer to offer vertical video in the near future.
