When will ‘F1’ race onto streaming?
Brad Pitt and Damson Idris star in this new racing drama from Apple. But when will it stream at home?
The global fascination with [Formula 1] is taking a new shape this weekend, with the premiere of the new movie “F1.” Brad Pitt and Damson Idris headline this new drama film from Apple, which makes its official theatrical debut on Friday, June 27. The movie isn’t available to stream on-demand yet, but we’ll give you our prediction on when we think you’ll be able to do so here!
Key Details:
- Hot start: “F1” has good scores from critics and preview audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
- Bite of the Apple: The movie will stream on Apple TV+ once it leaves theaters.
- Race to streaming?: There’s a chance that the wait for the movie’s premiere will be a long one.
“F1” follows Sonny Hayes, a former phenom whose F1 career was derailed by an accident 30 years ago. Now a racer for hire, Sonny is approached by a former teammate to come back to F1 for one last shot at glory. Will he take advantage or flame out the same way he did decades ago?
“F1” has attracted the acclaim of critics and viewers who have caught a preview screening of the film. It has an 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, and 97% of preview audiences say they enjoyed the movie as well.
When will you be able to stream ‘F1’ at home?
The good news is, there’s no need to guess about where “F1” will be available to stream on-demand. The movie comes from Apple Studios, which means it will stream on Apple TV+ when the company decides it has had enough time in theaters.
How long will that take? The wait could be a lengthy one indeed. Apple doesn’t release all of its films theatrically, but two recent examples of movies that did make it to cinemas stayed there for more than 100 days before streaming. The 2023 movie “Napoleon” came out on Apple TV+ 101 days after being released in cinemas, and 2024’s “Fly Me to the Moon” took 147 days to reach the streamer.
I’ll split the difference with my prediction and say that “F1” will premiere on Apple TV+ 126 days from its original theatrical debut. If that’s the case, fans can expect to see the movie there on Friday, Oct. 31. It may not be the perfect Halloween thriller, but it’s sure to get the blood pumping nonetheless.
Apple TV
Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+) is a subscription video streaming service for $14.99 per month, offering a growing slate of original series, films, documentaries, and specials. Unlike other platforms that combine licensed titles with originals, Apple TV is built entirely around exclusive programming, making it the home of critically acclaimed hits such as “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” “The Morning Show,” and “Silo.” Its lineup continues to expand with award-winning dramas, comedies, family-friendly shows, and blockbuster original films like “CODA,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
