Hulk Hogan’s ‘Real American Freestyle’ heads to Fox Nation
The deal is the second live sports agreement made by Fox Nation in recent months.
Fox Nation is on the prowl for more sports content. Just weeks after announcing that it was adding Professional Bull Riders Association events, the streamer has struck a new sports rights deal. On Monday, Fox Nation announced that it would serve as the exclusive broadcast partner of “Real American Freestyle” wrestling, a new promotion launched with the help of WWE legend Hulk Hogan. RAF will blend elements of both traditional Olympic-style freestyle wrestling and professional wrestling for the first time.
Key Details:
- Before summer ends: “RAF01” is coming to Fox Nation on Aug. 30.
- Future of the sport: “Real American Freestyle” bills itself as the future of wrestling.
- Wrestling bona fides: The new wrestling league is also led by Eric Bischoff, Chad Bronstein, and Izzy Martinez, with broadcaster Kurt Angle in the mix as well.
Fox Nation has secured the broadcasting rights to the first two “Real American Freestyle” events. The first is slated to take place on Saturday, Aug. 30 at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, OH. The second has yet to be scheduled, with a date and venue still to be determined.
Real American Freestyle is “redefining wrestling coverage with a bold, modern approach and a mission to professionalize the sport.” The fight card for the first event from the wrestling league will feature six matches, and a featured, main-card bout is also in development.
“We’re thrilled to partner with the Real American Freestyle team as they build a visionary brand that redefines the future of wrestling,” Fox Nation president Lauren Petterson said. “Fusing elite athleticism with unmatched entertainment, it’s an honor to be part of the new era of the world’s oldest and most iconic sport.”
Some of the biggest names in wrestling are combining to help make “Real American Freestyle” a success. The league is led by Hulk Hogan, former pro wrestling executive Eric Bischoff, Chad Bronstein, and Izzy Martinez, and the team will also include Olympic gold medalist and WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle, former MMA champion Chael Sonnen, and MMA world champion Bubba Jenkins as live event commentators to provide expert analysis.
“’Real American Freestyle’ is creating something that’s never been done before, and we needed a partner that understood that and could build with us,” Hogan said. “Fox Nation is synergistic with our brand, they appreciate the importance of bringing this sport to the masses, and they believe in our goal.”
